Ok well, I'm new to this computer-based home recording thing and I'm having a few problems get started.

Problem 1: I cant seem to use the computer speakers as monitors for the us-122/cubase le.

Problem 2: When using the line/guitar ins I get a massive delay from the unit - the green signal light lights up as I play the guitar then about half a second later the midi out light lights up and signal is registered in cubase. It doesnt seem to do that when I run a midi in from my keyboard

Any help would be appreciated as I'm that if I can get past this annoying set-up problem I can start having fun.

Did you set the ASIO driver to the US-122 in Cubase?

I'm noob too..so I don't even know if that helps at all lol. just figured I'd try and help out. :)

Thats cool mate. Thanks :) I thought this usb thing would be a good idea but now I'm thinking I maybe should have gone with a digital 4 track or something.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. Ummmmm, how do I do that? :D I'm such a n00b!!! lol!

I had one those...It didn't do anything buy give me problems!! ..sold that fucker and got a firebox...been very happy with it.

In Cubase LE: "Devices > Device Setup > VST Multitrack" and change the ASIO Driver to ASIO US-122 (24 Bit)

U rock!!! Goodbye delay!!! :)

Now I just need to work out this monitor problem..... :D

I can't think of a reason why your speaker's wouldn't work as monitors...I would think that they should be acting as your monitors by default. You should do what I did, buy RCA cables and hook up a stereo to the interface. :)

How do you have your speakers connected? To the L/R line out on the 122? To the headphone jack? Do the speakers require additional power? Are they active or passive?

They're powered but I have them going through the pc. I would have thought that if I had them as my "playback device" in the windows audio control panel then they would be what cubase would use.

I was using a stereo (with speakers) as the monitors via the us-122 but there was something seriously wrong with that. I dont think the stereo liked it much as it seemed to heat up and there was a rather scary sounding hum lol!

Anyway, I bought some headphones and they work fine through the unit but I'd still like to know why the speakers wont work through cubase. They work for all the other sounds on my computer (mouse clicks, ipod, game sounds etc).

When you select the US-122 as the input/output device for Cubase, it uses that for both input and output -- that is, the 122 is functioning as your soundcard. If you select the ASIO Multimedia driver, you might be able to select the 122 for input and your onboard soundcard for output, but I wouldn't advise it. That driver is not as good for the 122 and the latency would probably be annoying.

Instead, just use the 122 for all your soundcard needs -- including windows sounds, etc. It will use fewer system resources than running 2 soundcards and, chances are, the 122 has better sounding converters than your onboard card, anyway.

Sounds like a good idea. I was gonna do that originally but my pc speakers dont have the right plug for the us-122 outs. I'm gonna have to get new speakers I guess. Not that that bothers me - these ones suck anyway lol!

Thanks man :)
