Another track written this week...take a listen!

Maybe my favorite so far. The most fun to sing and play, for sure. I tried to throw in that crazy death scream at the end of the bridge, but I just can't get it, haha. Time to practice that. Also, I used a different chorus effect for both the 2nd main vox layer and the harmony vox. This one is better at the low-end stuff, so hopefully the vox are nice and clear.

So, what do you guys think?

oh, and the "click" or "fuzz" in the very beginning is intentional. Was supposed to give it that feel of, "just plugged in and played".

During the quieter part of the verse, I'd say the snare needs to come down in volume. The ride cymbal (if that's what it is) comes in panned 100% right but very low in volume.
 
Cool man, did you record these drums? They sound real....are they triggered? The snare I really believe has a good sound. I thought at 2:50 the song was going to end. I really would have liked that actually...I love endings that come without my anticipating of it. But the song is done in a good style so that people who aren't really into this kind of music can still like it. It doesn't take much crossing over to appreciate this song so I say it sounds very alternative/rock/pop.
 
Hey, the drums are Superior Drummer 2. I develop a beat in my head and try to find the closet match to it in their "grooves". Then I customize it further, eq, adjust levels, change out the pieces, and write most of the fills. Glad you like the drums. I spent a good amount of time on them.

I am totally glad you mentioned the genre. I like groups who walk that line between "too edgy" and "elements of pop". Groups like Nirvana, Rise Against, Thirty Seconds to Mars, where they can be screaming one second and singing a catchy melody the next. I definitely went for a blend of the two on this one. That's why it was the most fun writing and playing. I actually do refer to it as "alternative-pop-rock" myself. Haha. Nice.

About the end, I completely redid the ending last minute yesterday afternoon. I had an extended ending in a major key, instead of playing the same intro part, but I didn't care for it and decided that I liked the synth part the best and should throw it into the ending to reinforce it as the focal point of the song. I do like your idea through, and I wish I would have been more patient and thought it out a little longer. I got lazy the second half of the song. I just wanted to get it up and move on already. :)
 
Well it doesn't really matter.....because if they got to the end it means they listened to the whole song! What this song reminds me of is the radio in 1994 - REM, and Sponge (wax ecstatic) the only difference being is a) the bass guitar would have more "picky" bright defined sound and b) the snare would have exaggerated reverb and c) the guitars might be a little heavier/LOUDER somehow.....hmm, what I'm trying to say is that if a mix can live up to the song's potential, it will create a winner. Really, not bad to have just those three things fixed to say you made a song/recording in the league of what I heard on the radio. Somehow clearing up the guitars will make the song feel as if it's moving somewhere urgently.

Ah-ha, I see. Yeah, 1994 is pretty much my era. Hopefully, though, the music doesn't sound too dated. I try to do some things that give it a more modern feel, but I also try to keep some of the elements that made that music so great to me. And yes, I purposely EQ'd the bass to be more deep with less mid and high mid. Those kids today love their bass! :thumbs up:

I definitely wanted heavier guitars, especially during the bridge where they're chugging away (breaking benjamin kind of thing)...but I did the best I could using the Ampire amp sim and my 7 or 8 months of recording my own stuff.

oh, and Wax Ecstatic is probably my favorite Sponge tune! Nice call
