Another "take a look at my computer" build list

This will be both a recording and general purpose home PC. I mainly want to transfer LPs to CD and may fool with some guitar/vocal recording as well. I'll also be doing some digital imaging, running Photoshop. Will likely see what the built in soundcard sounds like, hate it and then purchase an Audiophile 2496. Think I'll pick up a HD and maybe a new mouse on sale locally (still have x-mas gift cards from CompUSA & Staples). Will re-use existing monitor & keyboard.

I've got the following in my New Egg shopping cart:

Antec mid-tower case & 350W PS $ 63
Asus P4P800 Deluxe $128
Intel P4 2.8GHz CPU $183
Crucial 512MB PC-2700 RAM (2 sticks) $156
Asus GeForce2 64MB video card $ 38
Lite-On CD-RW $ 34
Lite-On DVD player $ 32
Windows XP Home Edition $ 91

So, what do you think? Am I missing anything or could I do better for $750 (or less)?

I'm a bit of an Athlon freak but that looks like a good setup as long as you're not playing video games. Won't get far with a GF2 in the gaming department. Yesterday when I was at Staples they had a similar Antec case for $130 (only it was black). I couldn't believe the markup on that thing...

From the looks of it I can use either PC3200 or PC2700 (or 2100 for that matter). Are you saying go with the best the board can take? Why will 1GB of 3200 be better than 2700?

You see that Newbie deisgnation under my name? This will be my first PC build...

No, what I'm saying is that the P4 2.8 runs at an 800MHz FSB and requires PC3200 in order to run the memory bus synchronously with the CPU FSB.

It's basically a requirement for decent performance.

Thanks Marquis - that's exactly the kind of help that may help keep a newbie like me out of trouble.

Anyone else have more recommendations?
 
Looking at changing the RAM on the NewEgg order. What's the difference between the following?

Crucial 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 16T - OEM $84
Crucial 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 8T - OEM $84

(Both are non-ECC)

There's also this:
Crucial 184 Pin 512MB ECC DDR PC-3200 - OEM $118

Is ECC memory something I need? If so, I may need to settle for a 1/2 Gig. If I'm going to go with less memory, should I split it on two 256 sticks or just go with one 512?
 
You do not need ECC memory for this system, no.

As for the two mostly identical modules, the only difference I can see is that one says it's a 2.5v module and the other says 2.6v.

Who knows...

Either one will work fine, so just pick one and buy two of them.
