This originally started as a poem my son wrote for school last year when he was 15 years old. I liked the poem so I put some music to it and took some of the best lines and created this song. Justin sat over my shoulder while I mixed it and told me what he wanted to hear. I played all the guitars and did the vocals. I'll admit right now that the drums are a machine. But his name is Rami and anybody who knows his work knows that he is a DRUM MACHINE! ;) Many thanks, Rami! Phenominal job as usual!

Post mix down:

L1 Premaster (edit ready)

Classic Master Limiter to bring the level up to -3.

L1 16-bit lowest dither level

Saved as 320kbps 44.1 mp3

Anybody hear any problems that need tending to? And Justin would like to know what you think of the lyrics.

Just to let you know - it's a long one, 7:30!

Cool vocals dude. They fit well. Lyrics seem good to me. I like em. The guitar at the beginning is too quiet for me. I'd like to hear it a bit more with the vocals. Vocals sound very well recorded. Drums are also a little in the background. No real problems, just a personal preference here. Not sure if you want to beef the feel of the tune up or not. Sounds like it would be easy to give it a bit more oomph, if you want, though.
I like the tune. Has a nice vibe. Good playing all around. And again, nice vocals.

Thanks, Ed! I'd be happy to listen to any tips on beefing it up so fire away! I'll give it another listen and pay special attention to what you've said. I also thought the vocal could be a bit more 'up.' But I like the quiet acoustic in the beginning. Thanks again! I can always count on you to listen and critique my songs and it's MUCH appreciated!

Thanks, Nakatira! Your comments are much appreciated! What sound weird on the acoustic, if you don't mind my asking?

I only listened to headphones, but it sounded a bit harsh\egdy sharp, as if the mic was positioned to close to the soundhole.
maybe a more roomy, warm sound would be a thing.
anyway just a suggestion. :)

Yup, I feel the same way.

Nice tune! Me likey, I like that percussion thingy ( I dont know the name of that thing). You got the mood down, the right voice, when the song gets going the guitar fades into it, but its harsh and fuzzy or something.

Good stuff, nice solos, excellent job.

Thanks DavidK. I believe you are referring to the vibraslap, yes? Maybe the acoustic needs less high end and a bit more low-mids?

This is a family forum. Watch your potty mouth young man :D

Is that what that thingy is called? I didnt know, I just associate it with the 70s shows like Starsky and Hutch.

Its hard to put my finger on it technically but the other fellers noticed it too. Its, ummm, errr, not right :p Its the high end yes, but its also kinda fuzzy or something. As I said, when it gets rollin it is fine, its just at the top. Other than that I think its great, good stuff.

Jeff, good lyrics. Tell your son he is on his way to a great songwriting career, if so desired.

The singing is great. I like your growly. :D

I agree about the acoustic, but couldn't have told you what to do about it. I can only hear the sound it is making.

I think that once you fix the acoustic mic distance, perhaps adding another acoustic track after the second line, would fatten it up, while adding to your build-up. It is something to think about perhaps? Or not. :D

Are you using a slide, lap steel, pedal steel, or other?

I have listened five times now, so I would say it is a great song!! ;)

And Rami....great drumming!!!

Love that drum machine. :)

(Seriously though, I think I've already told you this is my fave of yours. Great song.)

Wow, first time I've been called 'young man' by someone younger than myself. ;)

It might have been my attempt to put some pick click on the acoustic. It seems it may have been a bit much. I've remixed a bit, brought the drums up a bit and 'warmed' the acoustic a bit more, bringing down some of the highs. I'll try to repost later this evening.

What are you using to record the accoustic? :)

There's actually three tracks of acoustic. One is recorded through a pre, one mic'd and the third is recorded direct. The main guitar (mic'd) is center, the pre (left) comes in on the second half of the verse and the direct (right) comes in at all skate. The left has a bit more high and the right has a bit more mid. Both left and right are VERY quiet and just brought in just enough to fill out the stereo field.

I was told that I have a 'rare' voice. Growl with vibrato. ;)

And Rami....great drumming!!!

It's two different slide tracks. The fills are done on my ESP 7-string and the solo was done with my Squier Strat.

Well your help on my project is GREATLY appreciated! Any time I can return the favor you just let me know, my friend!

Ok, I made a few changes on the acoustic EQ, brought the vocals up abit during the louder passages and brought the drums up a bit more. Get the whole song here:

As for the problem with the acoustic you can get a one minute sample of the intro acoustic (before it gets lost in the rest of the song) here:

Let me know if it sounds better, please. Thanks!

Intro sounds really good. Man that voice!!! You growl it smooth baby!!!:D
