Because it might straight jacket and deaden the performance (of this style at least).

If you are panning wildly then it’s impossible to know if you have phasing problems. A hard pan will sound fine in mono (where we check phase) but just sound wrong in stereo. It’s hard for me to judge the drumming when I’m so distracted by such a strange placement.
