Another Reason to Avoid Behringer Gear?

I've owned one piece of Behringer gear. It was some Sonic Maximizer/Exciter thing. It worked fine, but was noisey as fuck. I actually made $8 when I sold it on eBay.

I feel bad. I own several pieces of Behringer gear and didnt know about this. I mean i knew they were cheap knock offs, but i guess i didnt know about the legality of it.

Now I feel like i shopped at Wal Mart. :(

Behringer is a bit like desposable razors.... If you need to shave but can't afford a good razor you buy what you can... sure there's better gear... sure it's cheap... what the issue is really about is value for money. Is a preamp that costs 10 times as much ten times as good? NO, because audio equipment costs are incremental..... An Avalon mastering EQ is better than just about any other EQ around... but at $18,000AUS how many people buy one? Fit for purpose is what we need to think about.. For people starting out with limited budgets and untrained ears stuff like Behringer and Alto's get's people started... Later on they upgrade as ears and wallets get better positioned... So let's stop bagging the cheaper gear manufacturers, they provide a service and aren't trying to be something they're not....

Buying Behringer is an absolute waste of money.

Behringer SUCKS!!!!!

a guy I know recently bought a behringer bass amp and with two 10's...he used it two times, then both speakers blew.....I think he said that he didn't push the volume past 4. ....I took a secret pleasure in this though, because I told him not to buy it.

I needed a compressor and I don't have 250 plus dollars to spend at this very moment so I have to do what I can with the money I have.....I look at it this way....If you want to sit high on the hill and pass judgement on companies that don't conduct business by the book...you are a sad lot of misfit mothers. Are any of you boycotting the $3 plus gallon of gas???????? I didn't think so. STFU!!!!!!!!!!!

my beef with them isn't their business practices, it their shitty gear.

sorry to hear that...nothing pisses me off more than new gear going out on me.

There are a lot of reasons why that's bad for Behringer. Not least of which is because they aren't following the law...which could result in all sorts of bad thing happening to them. If it gets bad enough they may be forced to stop doing business in the US, which would make getting your gear serviced a problem. Since Behringer gear is crap (sorry, but true) this is even a bigger problem.

:D

The good news is that the Behringer stuff is so cheap that if it breaks you just throw it away since it would cost more to ship it and have it serviced than to buy 2 more new....

Ethics aside, the gear is still pretty cheap. The compressors, EQ's, preamps, converters etc... They all sound pretty bad to me. Even the headphone amp (which I do own) sounds pretty bad. If you think that any of it sounds good, it is most likely because you really haven't used anything better before.

I've mentioned this before. David Bowies producer uses Behringer compressors, he has for years. I'm pretty sure he's used/uses plenty of "better" compressors and I'm comfortable in believing he picks Behringer over mega buck high end fancy name compressors for reasons other than the price :D

They're not sticking it to the man

THEY'RE STICKING IT TO YOU!!!

You're buying designs ripped-off from guys like Greg Mackie that love him or hate him was building all of his stuff in the US of A until Behringer came along.

Welcome to the real world. Ever wonder why there are hundreds if not thousands of guitar makers making guitars that look almost exactly like a Fender Strat? Every manufacturer takes from others. You can find fault with and a reason not to buy from all of them if you want to.

I'll bet that all those who think it's OK for Behri@#%*& to violate ethics, patent laws, FCC rules, etc just to get a cheaper product on the market wouldn't mind a bit if their music was pirated would they??? Just think about it, you spend weeks writing, rehearsing, and finally u get that big hit you've been dreaming about, then you get about 10% of the income you should have gotten because pirates copy and mass produce it for much less than your "R&D" and production costs. Wouldn't that be cool!! Cheap music, I don't care how I got it! Think about it when you buy products from less than honest companies.

Want some cheese with that whine?

Which is why I play Fenders and Gibsons  through my USA-built amp
