don't be surprised if you don't understand my accent..I'm going to do a bouncing ball sing along version later :)

Its called turns to dust and its about singing songs about fairies while drinking lemonade..would love to hear anyone's thoughts on it

I see what you're trying to do, within the singing and speaking, but I'd consider inverting them, make the speaking the suggestion and the singing the main point. maybe try the speaking part through and 8K "phone" filter, and put it off to one side... Might be interesting. Not really much to gripe about otherwise, except a certain edge on the percussion tracks. Love the flowing backup vox. I enjoyed the spare, essential solo too.

Nice "travel" tune, it has a sort of relentless movement to it.

From a tonal colors perspective it sounds more like a desert/middle eastern flavor than fairies, lemonade or not. :D Not a bad thing, just an observation.

Thanks very much...Im not sure what way around to put them myself..but I do have a phone impulse that may be worth some experimentation tomorrow..

strange how it ended up middle eastern sounding..I was using a latin beat as a backbone then added percussion.. the synth just started sounding like that when put through filters..the female samples were taken from a holistic healers chanting! lol

yet you never spotted the fairies or lemonade  :)

Still listening. Nice job. good soundscapes and sets a nice ambience. I think the spoken and singing parts are conflicting with each other. Maybe a call and response might work. Or move the singing off to the side and lower the level somewhat. I'll disagree with Phil about switching the priority on the parts, I'd keep the spoken as the highlight.

I wouldn't mind downloading this. If you turn the feature on, let me know.

peace.

thanks man...the synth sounds are from an old AX7 through a filter and a JV1080 I just picked up...the expansion boards sounds are still fantastic..

I've activated the download...only thing is Im using Phils suggestion on the mix..I think it works once I can sort the levels out

Ill try a version with your suggestion and muck about with it more tomorrow

I wish soundclick allowed more than one mix

KC...I just listened to the SC player....you musta re-loaded a new version? I sounds like you have uploaded something with other than the required 44.1 k rez...all kinds of awful noise. Check the upload!!

strange seems to work all right...maybe just a bad link or something try this one

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=994495&content=music

hey or maybe that noise is the song lol

i really like this song alot, pretty awesome

man thanks a lot...Im surprised at the positive responses..I posted an absolutely terrible mix of a song a few days ago so its brilliant if the advice given is paying off

I like this, very fresh approach to vocals, the spoken vocals sound Irish to me and I find it appealing. I like the scratchy record disc sounds (what is that called again?, lol).

I would develop this more, it sits on solid foundations. Perhaps spatial/panning effects, bring in some more real drum sounds and possibly higher pitched keys or electric guitar in select parts for dramatic effect.

Maybe even some Jean Michael Jarre or Gary Numan stye synth sounds?

Look forward to hearing this develop, cheers.

Peter

Thanks Peter..there's room for more there..I have more lyrics as well but I may leave that part of it..

Maybe Ill leave this one and do a slightly faster version with some tones in the higher frequencies?

thanks again for listening and the comments..oh I'm a Scot btw :)

The lo fi works fine...the hf stream is whack. Just checked again. Not me...it's a faulty upload, I'm quite sure. I've done that before...48kH instead of 44.1...same effect. Let it stream for 10 seconds. I guess that's when the sample rate starts to underlap the uploaded freq-map...and it sounds totally twisted.

Nice sounds, btw..other than that.

weird...you may be right Ill go and have a look at it...I thought that soundclick automatically gives you a 128 bit 44.1Hz automatically...

thanks for listening though...maybe lo fi's the way to go :)

man thanks a lot...

no problem, i really meant it, i loved that song, the thanks goes to you. i love your voice, you remind me of my favorite Peter Garrett, but original in your own way

You've got to encode your MP3's to 128kbps before uploading.

oops..I havent...they play fine on my system through soundclick..would there be a reason for this? did it only work for you through low fi as well?

Edit: Ive just checked and they are automatically changed to 128 by the site

This sounds very good, KC.
Once again very Depeche Mode. Very nicely arranged and mixed. Voices are great, very atmospheric stuff. Stuff you get on MTV....;)
Nice work!

Joey :):):):)

Scot,

I listened again with fresh ears this morning and I still find it a really cool track to listen to. The test for me is always can I listen from start to finish and am I left wanting more when the track ends. The answer is yes and yes.

I really like this track, personally I would not change the speed/tempo, it is just fine for me. No sure what you should add but will happily continue to review any changes to it, PM me if you like, it is easy to get lost in these forums, cheers.

Peter

Maybe some panning of the 'spoken & sung' parts might keep them from fighting each other. I really like the sound of those keyboards-they sure gave the song a nice edge.

Damn (I wish it was OK to swear here) you've made me a happy man....this is the kinda sound I want to go for but I was unsure if it was too plodding..I find it like running through mud at times but not everything needs to be 150bpm

thanks man..I'm glad its still listenable...the next ones a nightmare :)

kinda hard to mix synths badly isn't it? the only person that knows the sound you're looking for is you..I stupidly remixed the vocals that you listened to...Ill put them back where they were..that's maybe added to the parts fighting each other
