i dont have a pro studio or anything
but i do have at least 2 grand put into my studio (maybe more)

and im normally real paranoid bout who i let over to hang out with
in fear some time some one may steal my shit
is this a normal feeling that otehr cats get on here to?

for instance like when a good friends friend comes over to chill
im always paranoid the "friend" is shady or whatever

but there is a plus side i see to this
i play some of my beats for them and they like em, then they say they are gonna buy my EP when it ocmes out, and that in turns means they will tell more people bout me

i dont know
its just an odd feeling i get and wondering what other peeps do when cats come over to chill?
do you only let certain people in or whatever? or how do you treat situations like this?

Wassup?Ya know what I do?I only let my "proven,old peeps"peep out the studio.If they're really my proven,old dawgs,they already know my setup anyway right?!Now....if they bring over somebody i don't know and that head wants to hear my hits.......(drumroll) i'll go to the studio and make dubs....period!I don't know that nigga so why would I tempt him!Ya feel me....make him earn a peep at the setup...a mans home is his castle and his studio's his chic.....fa real!!!Whatcha back playboy or somebody's gonna pull her when ya not lookin'....literally!

Size DOES matter

I have no worries. I'm pretty sure i'd be able to SEE someone wandering out with one of my guitars...or the keyboard...or the computer. OK...maybe they could slip the mic into the jacket and call it a day, but most of my studio investment value is in the soundcard, the computer and my synth...well, the guitar has increased in $$$. But how the hell you gonna walk out with THAT? That's some serious gazungas....i dunno....can't see it happening but i'm knockin' on wood.

You can't put anything past anybody. I make the fatal mistake too often of giving a person 100% of my trust until they give me a reason to take it away. After getting shot in the foot a few times in a row...now everybody starts with 50% and i'll see...although i've noticed having 2 large mean-looking dogs helps out a lot also.

yes i do not let anyone i know peep out my equipment or make beats unless they are true homies from day one. cats might not walk out wit my equipment when im there, but if they knew what i got, they might rob me when im not ready. so yeah im real careful with who i let listen to my beats and everything.

Only peoples... When I say peoples I mean cats you have know for years.... YOu know there tendecies....you know what their daily operations are about... ANy one else we go to a commericial studio and meet, talk, record etc..... Not only can people disrespect when you are there with them... My biggest worry is they come in ya rest and learn ya layout and come back and do a major robbery.....


Man a couple of days ago the studio I interned and worked at for years just got majorly vandalized by 4 cats with bats... They ain't take nothing they just smashed up every thing in 3 different rooms boards outboard gear computers etc.... Luckly no one was hurt..... Imagine this happening in your house were your family sleeps......

My home studio is strictly for pre production for myself....

You want to hire me for some work we will go to a commericial studio.... YOu want to sample some of my work I send ya sample CD or direct ya to da site.... NO HOME VISITS.....

First of all they are probably lying about buying your CD. Cats always say that. See how many these same cats think they should get a free one when the CD drops. Only a hand few stay true. Gotta call em out and let know how weak that is. Supporting you as long as it don't cost em.


Anyway... Hell yes i am paranoid. I got over 20 grand worth of s__t. It's a lifetime investment for me. It's like a wife that won't argue with you unless you str8 mistreat it. If somebody ever touches my equipment that doesnt have respect for what i have invested in it (time and money) they are likely to see me acting like a str8 bitch. A cat broke a button on my Keyboard and sat there and said he didn't. I snatched his drunk ass out his chair and tossed him out. Gone act like he was ready to fight. I was ready to break that keyboard on his head. The that button cost way too much to get fixed. Ohh!!! I will kick a cat to a stain for trying to steal any of my equipment.

I can't stand when a cat brings new cats by just to hang out. Last thing i need is some fans in my workplace. They gone say everything sounds good (unmixed and missing parts). The wanna hear this and that. I ain't no damn DJ. Then they wanna freestyle. They wanna get on the mic (adjusting the stand and grabbing the mic), playwith the boards and drumachines. Once we had a cat up in there that don't even rap dissing tracks and songs. Play me some Bout it Bout it dirtry south songs. Steady running his yap. Everbody looking at each other like you wanna do it. I"ll do it. Naw we better just to confront the cat who brought his ass up here. Close one. Where i'm at it's tight on getting away with it.

I even hate when some fool brings girlfriend by just to show em that the studio really exists. She still ain't gone want you to spend time away from her.

I could go on and on but anyway. Keep the fake cats away.

Dayum!!! That's pretty funny!!! I think a guy did that with me once....i swore their was no WAY IN HELL someone could spend THAT much time in a studio and was bitchin...swore he was cheatin'....i saw the studio...we broke up anyway...and......he was cheatin'...but it's kinda interesting to know what the other guyz were thinking...man...don't i feel really stupid. But maybe i don't count as i was already doin' music......i dunno...hmmmm?????

I also don't work with people unless I meet em through someone else, or I build with em first. And most of the people I deal with know better than to bring miscelaneous cats with them to a session.

I just happened to be outside washing the car in the complex lot and a cassette of my beats was playin. I saw my neighbor's daughter's husband outside the door smokin a el and noddin his head.
A few days later I was takin out the garbage and passed by him(still standin outside the door smokin a el). He asked me about the beats, and was like yeah, "I mess around with beats too." I was like, "aww shit, here we go." Then he starts askin me about equipment, "No I don't got none, I just work on my brother's gear sometimes" I said.

It didn't matter, from then on I had strange cats walkin up to me in the complex talkin about, "yeah, I heard you be workin it out in there, I write too, R&B and rhymes you know, just get up wit me." Then some was like, "yeah, I'll stop by sometime.":eek:

I watch these guys. Every fuckin day they out there, all fuckin day. They don't have jobs, they don't even sell drugs, they just sit out there smokin trees all fuckin day. Hell No!
When I leave for work, they out there, when I get back, they out there, if the windows are open, they walkin past the crib peekin and shit.
We got more than just electronic equipment in here, I had to sneak my new monitors in here so them stupid asses wouldn't see em. I'm in an old complex so cats can just walk past the window, we movin out as soon as we can.

I feel you on that, I gotta get my sample CD together:(

Me,Myself's story is almost identical to what happened to me. My brother and me moved into this apt. that wasn't exactly in the hood , but still not in the best neighborhood. There were bars on the windows which is the reason we took it. My aunt and lil cousin lived right across from me which is how we learned that the place was available. My cousin just so happened to be one of the guys that would hang outside all day and nite. The first time I ever passed by the bunch, he's like "Thats my cousin the be making beats. Aye Cuz!!! You should let my homeboy freestyle for you one day." Everytime they hear music playing that's not what everyone in the hood is listening to and they don't recognize it. They would be like "Was that yo shit? when you gonna let a ni99a hear some of yo sh1t". One day I came home and got the scare of my adult life. Obviously someone tried to get in my apartment. The dead bolt lock was loose as hell. If the offender had maybe a few minutes more undisturbed they would have gotten me. After that, I wasn't messing with none of those dudes, not even my cousin.
 
Damn! It's even worse when you can't trust fam.

I just got some more shifty ass neighbors, pit bulls and firecrackers all fuckin night, I just happened to peek out the window one night to catch one of they friends pullin on my sister's bike to see if it was chained to the tree.

Always askin me, "where da girls at? Where da girls at?, yo, if you see mad shorties comin in, just stop thru." Don't be nothin but guys smokin weed, talkin shit.

At least these cats don't even seem remotely interested in music.

Don't get me wrong, I got some good neighbors, it's just a mixture.

I even had this old white guy try to steal a drum off the back yard.

What's the way to insure my stuff?

Damn dog. That's why i got my stuff off in a 24 hour storage unit. Way off in a good neighborhood were everybody goes to sleep at nine or ten every night. No night time traffic with some businesses and hotels right around the corner. I got police pulling me over and scoping me all the time. I just talk it off and let em know what i'm about (smoking a black to cover up the alcohol). It's got a code gate and 8 foot fence around that joint. Dude that runs the spot lives in a house/office way towards the front. He don't say much to me and i stay cool with him. Rent is 170 a month with no electricity bills. Temperature controled so it stays comforatable. It's not as good as having your stuff a the criib but it's way way safer. No fidge , cable, or phone lines but who needs that when you droping track.

I hope you get them fools. Probably someone who knows you or knows about you from someone like that. I'd be keeping some duct tape and a box of extra large trash bags around if it happened to me.

I'm 28 now with a 2 yr old and a fiance so all my energy is focused on the positive shit in life.....my moms said to just pray and the good lord will handle his bidness on those fools that got me.Instead of sweatin' them clowns I just gotta do what I gotta do with the insurance company and 5-0.Other than that I'm focusin' on my rebuild .........matter of fact......

the fucked up thing is that my landlord lives in a basement apartment below us(I rent a house minus the basement....obviously)and he got home at 3:30.Our mailboxes are both by my side door (I got three doors...a front,side,and back door.....weird huh?)He said he saw them dudes robbin' me,and they said they were helpin' me move my studio to a friends house........now check it ...my landlord said that he seen us before chillin' .....meanin'.........I KNOW THESE FOOLS......since I don't let riff raff chill at my crib,feel me?!That also means it's one of my "true dogs",cats I went to school with.So I'mma dig out some olds pictures and have my landlord scope 'em out for me
