I just found this board and am new to all of this so I'm stating from scratch. I've got a producer pack/24 to install and also need a DSP board or some external imput device. Are there any sugestions out there? I am thinking of the MIA or Di-dort. Are there other places to look for help? I plan on recording more live music, demos, Jazz, folky freinds, adding some licks of my own. I've got a mackie 1202, four-track, MD, but I'd like to step up to the times.

Theres lots of good stuff out there, just check before you buy that you PC wont have any problems with compatability with whatever card you use.

Motu stuff is good.

The DSP is normally another card again, check out the TC Powercore.

I forgot to ask if

there are any cards that make use of the USB port and if so are they worth it?

Most folks won't recommend USB audio cards because they are rather limited. There are definately better things availible in the same price range.

I, on the other hand, have not choice with my laptop, so I use a Tascam US-428. 4 24-bit inputs and 2 playback channels is all it can handle, but it's got an 8 channel control surface that lets you mix with hardware faders and knobs! I like it a lot. It works like a dream with Cubase VST 5.0 and above.

A bit pricey, though. $479, I think. Here's a link.

If you don't have to use USB, I wouldn't. As long as you can accept its limitatitions, though, it works well.

Good luck,
Chris
