I've been using an LXP-1 and LXP-5 in compbination for about 6 years. I recently got an MRC and have been fairly happy with the control it's given me over the two devices.
But when I was at the local Sam Ash to buy a midi cable to hook the MRC up, I got to talking with the guy in Pro Audio about what I was doing. He commented that "those were good units for their time, but just about anything made today would be better."
He mentioned the TC Electronics M300 and the Lexicon MXP550 as a unit "a quarter of what those went for new, and way better." So I burned a CD with some dry drum tracks, some dry guitar tracks and some dry vocals and went back to see if I could hear a difference.
This of course was a difficult thing to do in a supermarket sized store full of 13-year olds playing Blink 182 riffs.
So my question is, are there any of these sub-$400 units out there even worth a listen compared to my lxp-1?
Thanks in advance.
