SHORT VERSION:
I need an interface that will provide the following:
LOW LATENCY, HIGH QUALITY I/O A/D, LIMITED INPUTS
Long version:
Hello - I am having trouble narrowing this one down. I built a high end quad core system specifically for recording. I need to touch up stuff recorded in the real studio at home.
The new machine is replacing my former box which is a P4 3.0 2GB DDR. The tracks I am working with are THRASHING my old CPU, and I am using Nuendo 3 and Reason 3 with an MBox (ugh) and getting like 17-23ms latency adding guitar tracks and using Guitar Rig 2.
The new machine is a q9450 with 4GB XMS3 Dominator DDR3. I have the best water cooling setup money can buy and am going to overclock the thing to 3.5GHz+ this weekend. The whole point is to take the computer out as the weak link and get the latency down as far as possible.
So here's what I need in an audio interface:
*can be PCI, Firewire, USB, whatever you think is fastest and best quality for my application
* Only need 2 inputs
* would prefer built-in quality a/d (don't have a preamp at home)
* need the latency as low as it can go. I want to play the guitar and use Guitar Rig 2 and not hear the guitar coming out half a second later. my understanding is that with the type of computer i've built, this is now possible.
* I don't care what type of interface it is, but I would like it to play friendly with Nuendo
* I would also like to use it as my sound card for regular playback on my computer, because my motherboard doesn't have integrated sound.
Thanks for the help!
- So far RME Fireface 400 looks like the best bet
