I am getting the M-box but am running my comp with just the onboard sound stuff, what would be the best soundcard to get to use with the Mbox? That I don't have to sell my first born to afford it. Thank you for all your help in advance.

If I got one of the M-audio soundcards would that eliminate the need for the M-box? I see that all the Maudio cards all have multiple in/outs. Or are they two totaly differnt kinds of things that work well together or just a way to get more in's?

Thank you for any info

What are you planning to do with the sound card? The Mbox has the outputs for monitors or headphones. Are you mixing with out the Mbox also? What's "just the onboard stuff"?

well if I am getting this right I won't need a soundcard with the m-box. that is what I was trying to get at even though I had no idea that was really what I was trying to get at.

The "onboard stuff" is the soundcard that is builtinto the motherboard err there is no soundcard at all.

So just so I am getting this right the M-box acts as a sound card and only uses the comp like a mixer/recorder right? I understand the mbox only has 2 inputs which is ok for now as I am not recording bands or anything (at least not in the very near furture) so with a mixer I will have no problems micing a drum kit and mixing it down to 1 or 2 tracks, recording my bass into another track on the pro tools softwarem then a guitar etc etc correct?

I was trying to find out if I really needed to buy a soundcard but now I am thinking I don't am I correct in this thinnking?

Thanky ou all in advance for any info on this.

Right...So if you wanted to record drums on 2 tracks you could mix them into a stereo bus and mix and pan everything the way you like it and plug the busses into the Mbox and pan em' If you mixer dosent have busses just run them in the aux's. Then dub what ever else you want in the song.
