mr. green christmas
Here is another garage jam from July.

Recorded on a tascam 688 cassette multitracker. I just want to make it sound as good as I can...

I recorded a drum machine through an amp with a couple of mics and one direct signal and blended to taste. Then, a friend and I jammed along (him on bass and myself playing a delay-drenched guitar). Then, I overdubbed some rhythm guitars panned hard left and right, added some percussion and some more leads panned center.

How, in a general sense, does it sound?

My concerns are: the tamborine/shaker track is obnoxiously loud at first, but seems to calm down later, the drum machine still sounds too machine-like and, while I find the jam interesting, I suspect 5 minutes of this may feel like an eternity to some. Any thoughts?

Well, since you need a shower anyway... I am giving you a listen.

Very nice intro... great groove you have going on there.

I really can't find anything to gig you on. Very nice tune. I am saying nice too much, huh? :o

Listening as I type. I am about 2 minutes in, and still going strong. Nothing repetitive or boring, keeps my attention well.

Great job, as usual.

If I still smoked pot this would be my all time favorite song. As is I think it's as good as any of those "hippy jam bands". Nice vintage sound again. Very funky rhythm. Cool stuff man.

Cool jam but the bottom end on the drums is a bit hot IMHO.... I like the drenched guitar and the drier ones on either side. In spots it sounds like Moody Blues...or CSNY...

I'm immune from excessive bottom end because of my crappy monitors.

I hear some Phish and some Zappa. I usually turn off jams (especially my own) after 45 seconds or so, but I'm still going at 3 mins. -- Good stuff!

That's really 70's stoner music.

I love it. The mix is fine.;)

PS: I think the 688 sounds good!

 Yeah, after spending so much time in the garage, I have that sort of moldy, smokey thing goin' on...ewww. Thanks for listening and for the kind words rokket.

If I still smoked pot...

Yup, that seems to help in this case :p. Thanks Riff!

I am pretty sure I agree with you there, but need to check it out on some other system(s)...thanks for the listen and the advice as always ido!

I hear some Phish...

I was kinda thinking that too this evening. Saw them a bunch of times and love their stuff, but never intended to go in that direction. Thank you for hanging in there on this one chef!

Thanks so much for checking it out and reassuring me Dave. I appreciate your perspective on all things analog!

I like the bass line/rythym. Good stuff. Relatively balanced overall. :)

Thanks for adding our thoughts Subanez, I think my bud on the ole' Dean bass did pretty well considering my echo-laden garage and that he had to play through a guitar amp :).

Its like a time machine has taken me back to the psychodelic 60's-kinda hypnotic guitar there. Very good! And on a cassette machine as well-I'll change that comment to excellent!!!
