ap, I tried rebooting several time and it didn't work, so I may have a different problem. I also tried pulling the card out and reseating it back into the same slot. That didn't help either. I didn't bother to try other slots at first because I figured the chances of a slot going bad were slim and none. (I have a Dell 450 MHz, so it's not a cheapo machine)
But since Emeric suggested it, I tried a different slot. I powered up and the card worked OK this time. I re-powered again and it worked again. To test the bad slot theory, I put the card back into the old slot. I powered up twice and both times it failed again. Back in the new slot and it's working again. So it certainly looks as though it's related to that slot somehow. I guess I'll work with it for a while and see how things go. Thanks, Emeric.
Doctorj, sharing interrupts is not a bad thing.
In my setup, I haven't ruled out interrupts as a problem because switching slots also switches the assigned interrupt number. (Though it's been working fine for six weeks) I noticed that I could not manually change the interrupt for the Delta card. I figured that was the way the card was designed and didn't give it another thought. I didn't think to try disabling PnP from the BIOS as you say. So I think I'll try that. I'd rather assign interrupts myself.
