Excellent job. Sounds very 'Back in the US'. I think the vocal verb, or delay, and/or doubling sounds excellent. I also appreciate that you levelled out that lead riff. In the original it sometimes is distrubingly unequal to the main volume of the song.

And yes, you have more than a touch of McCartney-esque quality to your voice. Please consider doing other Paul covers.

I can hear the room in the snare, but it sounds good. Your vox reverb mismatches noticeably, I'd consider backing down on that a little, or match it to the "room curve" a little closer... No other nits, ya big dawg. Owoooo!!!

I'm using a hybrid Recorderman/Glyn Johns configuration on my overheads. The second mic isn't quite where either of them put it. It's somewhere between my shoulder and the floor tom.

As far as the verb on the voice, I'm really just trying to re-produce what he did in the original. I think his voice is even wetter than mine, and the drums are even drier than mine. I don't actually have any reverb on the voice directly. I put the reverb on the delay, for a sort of pre-delay, I guess.

Thanx alot Michael. Yeah, I noticed that in the original, the riff goes from really loud when he's not singing and then drastically (and not too subtley) brought down when he sings. I tried to find a balance between the 2, though I did turn it down a bit when the vocals come in. Thanx for the comments.

What a great version this is, Rami!
Brings back memories of me as a school kid at summer camp (broke every rule....). Your voice and the harmonies are wonderfull and the reverb is just right. Paul's in his version had a rather springy reverb if I recall. I have absolutely no nits about the recording quality. Love it!

Love this version!

I like the smoke you have over the mix letting things peek out when they should. I particularly like the sound of the space you have the kit sitting in and how you have made the mix so deep with the other verbs you have used to contrast it. Hats of for this one, it's a great sounding mix with an eaqualy great sounding performance. Great job Rami!

Can't give any mix advice on something that sounds so right. I'll be humbled and throw in a link to my latest offering...

Thanx alot, Joey. Yeah, it's one of those tunes I've always liked. I think Paul was actually doing his "John" impersonation in this song. It sounds way more like a Lennon tune than a McCartney tune, right down to the "Cold Turkey" riff and the slap-back echo. Maybe that's why I always liked it.

Excellent work. It's really nice and clear. Every part is in it's own sonic territory, nothing is fighting with anything else.

It's hard to critique your covers, 'cause they're always so excellent.

This one is no exception.

I've always considered this song & album as from the "golden age" of studio recording,... in the way it sounds. I can't remember if it's "Venus and Mars" or "Band on the Run", but whatever,... same era. Compare that to "Flaming Pie" or "Driving Rain" and there's a huge difference, w/the latter being an overly loud, over-compressed mess! Those early/mid-70's McCartney albums are really like ear-candy in comparison!

Drug song? That's a good one, but it's a love song. "My heart is like a wheel, let me roll it to you",... (is pretty plain). Paul was totally in love with Linda until the end. She must have been a really great wife and partner. She got slagged off in the press a lot, but she really held her own in Wings, FWIW.

I don't think it's "Paul covering John", tho' it's fun to say that, but John and Paul were on two totally different pages at the time. McCartney could rock when he wanted to, despite all the sappy & melodic stuff he'd written. Enough of that.

Your version is most excellent. I think your guitar sound is more "modern" and "heavy" than the original, but that's neither here nor there. The vocals are darned good. I've worked on this song a little over the years, but could never hit the high notes, so I appreciate ur version all the more. Did you cut out the 8-bar instrumental "bridge" section? I'll have to listen again.

Keep cranking out covers like this and I'll always be your dedicated fan.

When I say it's "Paul doing John", I'm joking. But it does have quite a few Lennon elements to it. But, either way, I didn't try to approach it that way. I had enough trouble just getting the tune almost right.

I did cut out the instrumental part. It seemed to drag (on my version) and make the tune too long for no reason. I debated it and decided that, since there's nothing in that part that isn't in the other parts, it gets the hook from my version.

very nice recording. the vox are what stick out in my mind as excellent. if i had to complain about anything i would say the drums are a little thin sounding to my ears...but that is a very minor thing. Nice job, i really like your voice.

I really appreciate that. You may be right about the drums. I'm still getting used to a new room and that affects the drums the most. Thanx, man.
