Where he's another clip I came up with. It's not a full song since I was just trying to show the person I was recording what I could come up with.

Overall he was happy but what do you guys think?

Also two things.
1. I don't have my bass on me so I can't put bass in it.
2. Could I benefit from having a mic tube preamp to clean up the signal or would i need better gear? (something like this http://www.proaudiosolutions.com/product-p/tubepre.htm)

I use "tube" pre-amps...the scourge of the home recording forums...I like it on my vocals, they make a big difference imo...on distorted guitars? negligible to be honest..does help clean guitars though..

so I use it for clean gain on my acoustic mostly...better EQing techniques will get you results that no magic box will...sounds like your clip could do with a little EQ'ing to separate the guitars more

Joeym and Greg L both get great results from recording their guitars but I think it comes down to how many guitar tracks and how they are spread more than anything else...

you sound like youve got something though...it certainly rocks :)

Jesus, what's that low end explosion in the middle of the clip??
It almost bust my sub!!
The guitars sound a bit muddy and too centered IMHO. How did you record them? How many guitar tracks?

Drums sound a bit dull, again I think it's too much low end. The kick is more of a thump instead of a thud. cymbals are a bit splashy. It could use some treble to make it sound a bit clicky. Guitar tone is better on this one, but it still sounds centered. I would get the volume down on the middle one.

I think I'll add two tracks left and right instead of centering the one. That way each side is double tracked. Might help on the centered issue. I did the same thing with the last one. I'll probably help out.

I was trying to make the bass drum have a triggered feel so thats why they aren't really thumpy. I'm still learning about cymbals.

Thanks for the advice. :)

For the song itself, very driving and good start. I'm just curious what the guitar and drum setup is?
