It is fine when I record clean without any guitar overdrive or too loud. But whenever I try to record guitar distortion or scream when recording my voice the volume starts to phase in and out and generally just sound warped. It almost sounds good, except its useless to me. I have tried different mics, and different sound cards (maybe they were both poor soundcards)

I use Sonar cakewalk and usually have mic boost off. The only item in the chain that I havn't tried changing is the stereo extension cord i use for all purposes, i plug it into the Line Out in the amp for recording guitar and into a microphone when doing voice. Maybe the cable cant handle the output? I can't see why it wouldn't...

Would greatly appreciate any help, this problem has been hindering me for a long long time and it's subtly discouraged me from recording.

so if your saying your recording your guitar at the same time your recording your vocals? which i presume is what you mean... well your mic is also picking up your guitar amps output into your mike... and like you said a phase effect.. well you got it.. your out of phase! sounds like a chorus effect right?...it's a slight delay basically between your direct signal and your mic picking up the same guitar from the amps speaker... either isolate your amp, or track them seperate... post a bit more info on exactly what ur doing... but if i'm reading you right.. that's what it is
