David - can you clarify a bit? Are you going to record all four parts of this for your next CD? Are the four parts part of a specific concerto (not sure if that's what it would be called). Can't wait to hear it....DavidK said:Its half done.Mountain King is part 4 of this piece, this is part 3:

The Anitras Dance will not sound like the current version. Its going to be a hybrid of real strings, the fruity loops stuff will be altered and be more texture than melody.

Yup. This piece is called " Peer Gynt, Suite no. 1" and there are 4 movements to it, Anitra's Dance is the 3rd mvmt. The first and last mvmts are very famous, you will recognize them.
BTW: here is the heavily revised version with fake strings. They will be real of course, this is just a much-revised version of what it will sound like:Anitra Revised

The tune sounds familiar - I know I've heard it before.
Your playing is great on the synth parts (including the FL's ). I dig your violin playing the most but your synth playing is equally excellent.
Lots of cool parts combined to make this an interesting musical piece. It has a "modern" feel to it while still retaining the classical vibe.
I know it's not done but it sounds really good so far....

I'm familiar with the piece but never really knew who composed it or the name of the thing. Your arrangement and chose of instruments were fun and exciting. I'm used to more traditional instruments playing this so this is quite the departure from what I expected. Enjoyed it.
Opps, listened to the revised version. I think it sounds better then your first attempt. The first one sounds a little choppy. The revised version has more of a continuity to it and brings the melody out a little better.

This thread is what reminded of wanting to do a Piano version of that Psalm that I posted.
This is pretty cool. Can't imagine how someone can actually play that fast on a piano. I enjoy the piano recitals and big performance by piano wiz people.
For some reason Beethoven sounds like it used to be "pop" music of its time. I guess it really was. It sounds more cheesy compared to some of the Mozart and Chopin that I've heard. That Tchaikovsky (I can't spell that completely) guy is pretty cool too. I know these cover many different periods but these some of the cool players/composers.

Hey DavidK, pretty sweet sounds all around. I especially like the dynamics you have here. Sounds kind of like a freaky carnival video game going on. Like a mix of a real and simulated instruments. No real nitpicks since it sounds pretty complex to my ears. The only thing that sounds a bit off to me is the 0:08 transition, a bit rough. Overall, good work, a cool piece to listen to

It should make sense when it's done, right now it doesnt because stuff is missing. This is gonna be retooled extensively when I get the real strings in. Midi kicks ass I dont know which sounds will work with the strings, so all I gotta do is hit some buttons, the dirty work is all done.
This piece is 18 minutes long.
There are certain things I am working on the other movements that will make this mvmt make more sense. I have it in my head as to where it's going, it's that translation to music that's the bitch.

Man I love Anitra's dance. I did an arrangement for 2 classical guitars in '75.
I was performing with my GF at the time. Your treatment is pretty cool and if there is any weakness it's from the FruityLoops. I can't wait to hear what you will do with The Hall of the Mountain King. I have done a couple of Bach transcriptions to MIDI and I can appreciate the effort and focus that goes in to your work. Several years ago I exchanged e-mails with a guy who did MIDI versions of the orchestral scores of operatic arias for sale to educational institutions and individuals . I think his site was midiopra.com or something similar. Just curious if maybe you know him. Can't remember his name but his renderings were expertly done.

I am more excited about Morning, it is much more of a challenge. My stuff is technical, virtuousic and clinical. I have never attempted anything lush. It's a huge challenge to get a big lush sound with a couple of synths and one violin.
W'ell just see what makes the final cut. I definitely want to keep the seductive waltz aspects of the piece. A lot of the fruity loops stuff is gonna be cut.

David the revision is very, very good. maintains some of the manic nature of your 1st version.

I'm the right guy to do it, I have been sober for over 900 days and have no plans to go back. When I was a teen, a guy named Tomita was a huge influence on me. If you listen to his stuff, you will instantly make the connection between his and mine, although I am trying my best to do it with my own vision. I would get very wasted and listen to his outrageous takes on the classics.

I've played your soundclick tracks for my 18 yr old who is a FL freak. He was (is) astounded by your stuff David...no shit. Maybe your demographic is broader than you think. This kid doesn't listen to anything but syko-hop and creepo-contemporary and I'm thrilled that he is so taken with your work. He now has my copy of your CD in his kit and I think I probably won't see it for a while, at least till he has played it for all his friends.

I don’t usually like synth/electronic-type instruments as much as acoustic ones. To me they tend to rob a track of personality. Not so here. This has a real expressive feel to it. Well done.

Very interesting, I think Grieg would have been impressed. The step sequencer adds a nice sparkle to the melody. I always wonder what keyboard composers from the baroque and classical periods would think of synthesizers.
I can't wait to hear the whole suite. A couple piano students did it last week on two pianos. It was refreshing to hear a different version of it.
I like the newer version that you did better, since the song is supposed to be a waltz, but the other version is amazing in its own way.
