Don't get me wrong... she can sing.. but I know a hundred girls who "can sing". I normally wouldn't nit-pick this much.. (ok... well... maybe I would.
), but when someone puts up a post beaming aboot how great a voice sounds, then it deserves a bit more scrutiny.
Her placement wasn't fluid at all (which could very well have been from the drunken stupor she was in) and her notes weren't solid in a number of places (which, once again, could have been from the drunken stupor... see.. I'm giving her the benefit of the doobt.
) I would agree that she sounds better when she gets up in the higher ranges... she gets a bit of "soul" goin' on then. But down low she doesn't have much appeal.
I do it all the time...I call it "production."
yeah... what he said...erichenryus said:i usually refrain from commenting on a cover if i've heard the original and this is a prime example of why. this girl has a very nice voice (probably fantastic when she's sober?) but i've got sarah's voice in my head already and the original is one of the most beautiful vocal performances i've heard so what are you gonna do with that? i mean i'm sitting here cringing listening to this but thinking at the same time, 'does she know that he posted this on the internet?' i mean take an original that is basically impossible to measure up to, and then get the girl drunk, record her singing, then post it on the internet for a bunch of nitpicking recording geeks to chew on.....that's asking for trouble man.

It just sounds worse than it is because the original is such an enchanting vocal performance.hehehehe... sheesh eric; it's not like he posted naked pics or anything.erichenryus said:i mean i'm sitting here cringing listening to this but thinking at the same time, 'does she know that he posted this on the internet?'
*egad*...chiascuro said:I thought she did a nice job and I like it more than the original but I suppose I have a little bias in there given that I recorded it.
That's a pretty debilitating bias you got goin' on there... I can't fathom how anyone could listen to the original and your version and say that the latter sounded better. I mean, there's nothin' wrong with "favoring" your own work.. but sheesh... you gotta be careful that you don't let your bias totally skew reality, or else you'll be puttin' out substandard mixes that you "think" sound good just cause "you recorded 'em". I don’t mean it as a "slam"... I'm just trying to give you advice on music in general... you should always be your harshest critic.
