Nice voice. Doesn't sound like the mic/pre is quite "open" enough to really show off her voice.

Some intonation problems at 1:30, 1:45 and 3:20. But a very nice voice overall... I really like her sound in the upper register.

OH GOD!@!!@! What was that sick viocelloiola sound at 4:00 ???!?!@ was that an accident? :D

Hey! I quite like that voiociello there..... (whatever the hell that is ;-])

Not bad for a drunk girl I thought

Real nice voice and song. The voice does seem kind of muffled though. Maybe a little more eq attention? But beautiful stuff.

She's got an outstanding voice. The reverb on the vocall sounds just right. Cool tunage too.

This is actually a pretty good musical reproduction of the original.. but quite frankly,.. I didn't think the voice was up to "par" at all... and by "up to par" I mean that Sarah sets a pretty high standard,... and this chick didn't meet it, by any means. :p Don't get me wrong... she can sing.. but I know a hundred girls who "can sing". I normally wouldn't nit-pick this much.. (ok... well... maybe I would. :p ), but when someone puts up a post beaming aboot how great a voice sounds, then it deserves a bit more scrutiny. Her placement wasn't fluid at all (which could very well have been from the drunken stupor she was in) and her notes weren't solid in a number of places (which, once again, could have been from the drunken stupor... see.. I'm giving her the benefit of the doobt. :p) I would agree that she sounds better when she gets up in the higher ranges... she gets a bit of "soul" goin' on then. But down low she doesn't have much appeal.

Seriously,.. If I had just heard this tune without any explaination, I would have given it much more credit for the musical end of the recording than the vocal end.

Hey man...pretty damned nice. Man, talk about a gutsy song to cover...Sarah's the bomb. Your friend has a great voice, drunk or not. Additionally, I like the sound of the pno and the reverb on her voice.

Production Stuff: I'm hearing some of that damned noise reduction blibble at the beginning, but I didn't notice it elsewhere. It's a necessary evil, and I don't think I could have even heard it if I hadn't been wearing headphones...but still....we have to bitch about something, right? Also, you might wanna' leave that vocal track running after she quits singing, b/c there's some hiss in the vocal track, but I didn't really notice it until you cut that track off...then it's REALLY noticeable...especially with the "pop" that's associated with that track cutting off @4:07-ish.

Now, in her defense...she really only went off pitch 2X, b/c that third one is just a paste, right? You can tell us...you cut and pasted that "born from the wreckage" line, didn't you. You know what I'm talking about...it's the line that BD pointed out at 1:30 and 3:20. :D :D I do it all the time...I call it "production."

Anyway, nitpicks aside, this is really cool. Thanks for posting.

Did no one else hear that scratchy violin sound at around 4:00? Was I just imagining things? It's pretty sick sounding... :D

i usually refrain from commenting on a cover if i've heard the original and this is a prime example of why. this girl has a very nice voice (probably fantastic when she's sober?) but i've got sarah's voice in my head already and the original is one of the most beautiful vocal performances i've heard so what are you gonna do with that? i mean i'm sitting here cringing listening to this but thinking at the same time, 'does she know that he posted this on the internet?' i mean take an original that is basically impossible to measure up to, and then get the girl drunk, record her singing, then post it on the internet for a bunch of nitpicking recording geeks to chew on.....that's asking for trouble man.

that being said, i loved your last post. was that a cover as well?

yeah... what he said... :p

That's what I meant to say.... :D It just sounds worse than it is because the original is such an enchanting vocal performance.

hehehehe... sheesh eric; it's not like he posted naked pics or anything.

(did you ???)

ouch duck and cover :-(

The other stuff was original with the exception of summertime of course but that was an original arrangement.

Fair enough comments. I thought she did a nice job and I like it more than the original but I suppose I have a little bias in there given that I recorded it. You're certainly right in that it has it's faults. She has done it better but I see your point about sarah.

cool. I don't know the tune but your singer does an admiral job for ears that don't know the original. Love the piano sound too, btw.

One thing, she doesn't do any of that tricky chest-head voice bobbing that I hear McClachlan do, which I think she stole from Joni, if I'm not mistaken. Does the original have that technique?

*egad*... That's a pretty debilitating bias you got goin' on there... I can't fathom how anyone could listen to the original and your version and say that the latter sounded better. I mean, there's nothin' wrong with "favoring" your own work.. but sheesh... you gotta be careful that you don't let your bias totally skew reality, or else you'll be puttin' out substandard mixes that you "think" sound good just cause "you recorded 'em". I don’t mean it as a "slam"... I'm just trying to give you advice on music in general... you should always be your harshest critic.

That advice was free, btw... all subsequent advice will inccur an hourly fee... :p

has she done karaokee? perfect for girls who can sing drunk. Good song. ever thought of getting her back over to do more stuff. That may make the Girlfriend a little uncomfortable huh? well, what the public is dying to know is who decided to only put the stringed instrument at the very end of the tune instead of aranging a part? just being critical.
Who played the piano. What did you use for the piano sound. very nice for a keyboard. It was a keyboard right? I am just assuming. unless you have a Baby grand in your apartment.

A decent cut for a fairly nice voice.

I've a personal policy... if you can't do the cover better than the original... don't bother.

What Sarah brought to this song can probably never be topped. Sarah's strength and fragility are evident in "Angel", not to mention her killer vocal phrasing... which your friend was not able to reproduce... but, in all fairness, Sarah plays her own piano.

I think your friend has a talent that can be developed, and might be better suited with some original material.
