I'm thinking the vocals might be a tiny bit low....either that or the guits need to go down a hair... The balance seems good between drums/bass... Fabulous singing as always! What the guitar chain - guitars/amp/mic - are you using on this track? The wah lead also sounds a hair low to me in the middle.... Overall it's a great mix, I wonder if it's just personal taste. I need to hear some other comments....lol ;):D

Thanks Gerry!
I might have boosted the rythm guitars a bit too much, 'cos they were too low in the first mix. I think it's in the verse that the vox is a bit low. The wah in the middle should actually be duelling with the voice, sort of a question and answer thing. But I can make it louder I guess. I didn't use my new EPI on this one, I just didn't feel like recording new tracks to it. It's 2 different guitars each recorded twice with different amp settings each time thru my VOX AD30 miced with an SM 57. In this mix, I played around a lot more with EQ and compression, especially with the drums. Funny thing is, when I hear it in mono, it sounds pretty balanced......

Cheers
Joe :)

I'm usually the first one to be critical if I think the vocals are too low . . .but in this case I thought they were fine, and slotted it well within the mix.

My impressions were tightness and control. There was a lot of energy harnessed very tightly. Kit was strong.

Backup vocals worked well.

Lead vocal was confident, competent and strong.

Great stuff!

Thanx Gecko!
Really appreciate your comment, because your advice is always very professional. I really did try to sink the vocals in the mix as much as possible. I find that it makes the overall sound of a song deeper and somehow bigger. Still learning how to do it right though.....

HEY HARD ROCKER JOE!!!

Just didn't want any confusion as to what Joe I was hollerin' at!!:D

Listening as I type...

The first thing that I hear is harshness with the crash.

Those vocals are just knock out man! Most excellent!

I've been going back and forth from this mix to the last one you did and it ain't exactly easy deciding...but at the moment, I'm going for the version before this one!! But after listening a bit, I may change my mind. You know us biker grannies, we are trying to hear through all that hog and wind noise!!!

Yep, this version is a bit on the muddy side for me. The intro sustain has gotten a bit muddied. Just like the crash seems harsh. I do understand, I am listening on some lower end monitors and some of these guys have much better gear for listening, so that may make a difference in what we all hear?

But still a great song and you did a great job recording, mixing and performing! You da camel man Joe!

Awesome riding song by the way!!! Makes me wanna fire up the hog...but the freezing rain says no way!

Ciao Amico

HEY THERE TRUE HARD ROCKIN' LADY !

wanna make sure ya hear me.....!

Funny how everybody hears something different in the mix. Actually I tried it on different speakers and this is the closest I got to a mix I like.....:o But like I said I gotta move on to new things or it might get frustrating chasing that phantom mix.
Anyway glad you and the hog still like it and may you ride high and wild into the wind...:D:D

Gotta go feed those camels now....:p:D

Joe :)

I'll give you an honest listen later on tonight, when I get to the internet cafe!

I hope you are over your cold, dude...

Sounds big.
The vox are classic hard rock (not cliche just class -ic). The phased effect or whatever on the intro vocals sends you a little too close to Eddie Vedder for my liking but you get away from that pretty soon.
The only thing I'd offer is that I'd, personally, prefer a little more definition on the bass and maybe something to do with the snare - don't know what though.
Cool guitar intro.

Hey Ray!
ah, yes the snare...my curse! The bass has quite a bit of gain on it, might be that that flattens the dynamics a little bit. I really wanted it to purr though...:D That effect on the voice is a backward reverb, really fun to do.

Thanx for the comments!
