Hey Wes, thanks very much for noticing the guitar solo! ;) :D

I agree that stereoing micing might be preferable depending on the style of music and arrangement. And since the grass is always greener, while you're switching to 2 mono acoustics, I'll try one stereo acoustic! :)

It brings to mind (for some reason) one of the big struggles (for me) of home recording. The difference between going for what seems slick and more "pro", and what you actually want. For example, when I first started this attempt to make stuff worthy of a CD, I had this professionally recorded stereo drumloop, very slick and modern sounding, and I was tempted to use it, just because it sounded "pro", but I didn't really like it. So I opted for the nightmare of trying to get a Beatley/Ringo type mono drum sound. But then you face the fact that even though that sound is more "lofi" than the modern one, it's still recorded in a very pro studio with very pro gear and very pro people, and nearly impossible to get in a home studio.

So, anyway, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with anything. Just something I was thinking about.:D

INCREDIBLE TUNE!!!

Macle,
Thanks to Wes480 mentioning it to me I came over here to check out your tune and I absolutely love it! I will definitely be playing this for the music type dudes at work tomorrow. What I want to know is, where can the other tunes you have posted in the past be found? I would love to listen to them as well but the links are all to the same location.
Hope you don't mind me throwing my $.02 in but don't worry about the drums. I hear what the other guys are saying but I always thought Ringo's snare sound loose and sloppy but it was just his sound. And yours is tighter than his was. The sound you got goes great with this song. I've been listening to it over and over. I too, am awed at your (and your girlfriend's) talent.

yup...that's me...macles official unofficial publicist...haha. one of these days I'm going to get fired for posting so much in this thread ;)

anyways...I agree with what you are saying...but, as others have said macle...we listen to your stuff and say "man...how could I do THIS in a home studio??" - so it's all in where you are coming from.

professional drum loop - meaning something you recorded at a pro studio or just like a sample type thing?

oh..i was wondering about that also - have you ever recorded stuff at a pro studio before? done any other musical projects besides this album?

I hate this......

there is nothing wrong with this mix .... :D
You should be demoted from being a homerecer to "polished-sound, I-want-to-sound-like-this-too"
pro :D
Seriously, how can it get better? Whatever comments are left are all subjective and personal prefference.
great stuff
cheers

There's an idea. Perhaps the worst amateur homerecers on this board should get the highest rank on the board. The better your mixes are, the lower your rank is. Once you get to where you can make a mix and master as good as the record company pros, you get demoted so far you are kicked off the board! :D

MikeA-Hey, that wes480 is a pretty cool guy! :) Thanks a lot, Mike, glad you like it. Unfortunately, when I put the other songs up, the site goes down, seems to work okay with just the one up, but maybe I'll put a couple more up for you anyway. (Or maybe Kramer can help out! :) ) And thanks very much for the comments on the snare, I appreciate that!

wes480- :D heehee, uh, let's see, how much do I owe you, 15 % of nothing is...
The drum loop was from a CD sample thing. I'm glad now I didn't succumb! I've been in a couple bands, nothing that great, mainly cuz they were doing music I wasn't much in to. I was just the bass player, though I'd try to contribute songs, but no one was interested much. Those bands did some recording in "local" type "pro" studios, but, me being just the bass player, I didn't learn much at all. In fact, it really inspired me to get into home recording, cuz, the money spent there, for what didn't turn out so great (IMO), you could buy gear which would last, and you'd have all the time to do what you want without the pressure of the clock or some engineer who doesn't really know what they're doing either! :D Thanks Wes, I really appreciate all your enthusiasm!!

Fed-Thanks!! Funny, I sometimes hate it, too, though in a different way, I suppose. When I listen to my own stuff, I just get all sweaty. It's hard to separate yourself, I guess. Really glad you hate it, though!! ;) :D

JimH-I'd like to thank the members of the academy for the demotion. You hate me, you really, really hate me! :D

There's nothing to say but- WOW! I love it. It's derivative (what isn't?) but at the same time, unique. Very tasty melody, great mix, great vocals, great playing. I'd buy this in a second. I absolutely love "pop" music!

Hey Jon, thanks very much. I really appreciate your comment, "derivative... but unique". And very glad you threw in "what isn't (derivative)", cuz that's a great point.

Really glad you checked it out. Thanks a lot!

Hey Mike, I put a few more songs up. Hope the site works okay.

Thanks again,

Thanks Macle, got 'em

Those are also GREAT. You two REALLY need to shop your stuff, you really do. That's all I can say...

dude.. I checked oat your new stuff (Fingerprints) and I'm diggin' it too... that is one groovy tune. You've got it goin' on... :p I second the earlier opinion that you need to start shoppin' this stuff..

WATYF

just cruisin' around...HEY...saw the pic!!...for some reason, I expected your girlfriend to look like a "lucille ball" for some reason...don't ask me why:rolleyes:

so....what part of the planet do you usually stomp around on?

oh...music...still good;)

Macle - you look 150% how I pictured you from you're tunes.

Max I always had it in my head that she'd look like Meg from the "White Stripes". max is a little more fitting of a rockstar i think.

you guys are definately...without a doubt marketable to the highest degree. make your millions man...just get it overwith. ;)

your comment on being aware of other instruments and happenings in the mix so as to not step on toes is greatly lived in your mixes. A solid coda that I need to embrace more.

Your Pop rocks!! Intelligent lyrics as well:)

Theron.

Don't shop your stuff- please God don't. Don't let those greedy bastards smear their corporate shmooze all over you. OK... I'm settling down now (thanks to "Despair"). How about this, all of us at this website spread the word and you start churning out cd burns at $10 a pop, okay, $12... $15, fine, I would pay $20 for heartfelt, brainy, sugar and vinegar, homegrown pop like this without hesitation (shipping and handling not included). Take a lesson from Jason Falkner, Brendon Benson, Enuf 'Z Nuf, Emiliana Torrini, et al, the record deal of our teenage dreams isn't what it used to be. I'm just glad I got to download it for free (I created a special folder!) but I want more than mp3 dammit.

Do you perform? Anywhere near Los Angeles? California? America? the Northern Hemisphere? Can I roadie?

Fuck, I sound like a girl.

Jon

WATYF-Thanks! Well, we'll see what happens...

mixmkr-That's funny! Lucy from the I Love Lucy Show, or the way she looks now  ?!? I can't wait to tell my girlfriend that! She IS a bit of a loon. :D

wes480-Alright, great! We were a bit reluctant to put up pics, you know, but figured, oh well...anyway, thanks!

Theron-Thanks very much, I appreciate your comments a lot!

Jon-I have to admit that part of me doesn't want to get involved with all that record co. bullshit, and maybe try to do everything ourselves, could be pretty cool. But, on the other hand, I'm pretty burnt out already just from doing all the music!! Would be great to get hooked up with people who are not complete bastards, maybe just partial bastards. We're not doing anything live yet, we need to practice more!! Thanks for sounding like a girl, we hardly ever get feedback from girls! :D

macle,

My daughter sez you guys are like a modern day Sonny and Cher, but much better, and lucky you, you're still alive.

You two crazy kids really should be rich, what's up with that?

Saw the photo is that you, or the people who came with the wallet?

Going for the all time most reply record, MACLE (up in lights).

Keep this up, and out come the stalkers.

Just toooo goooood!!!

Hey GT, that's hilarious (the Sonny and Cher thing). Remind me not to go skiing.

You know when we first started doing this, we joked (or were worried) that we would be like Sonny and Cher. In fact, we've got a song which is supposed to be sort of a parody of I Got You Babe called Got Love, supposed to be kind of a slacker version (I never posted it, but it was on the site for a while). I think it's too sincere sounding though, not subversive enough. I think the lyrics could be better.

Anyway, thanks a lot!! And tell your daughter thanks!!

Macle, I love this song!!!!!! I'm a Beatles fan and I tell ya, you made my night. I'm listening to the end of the second verse now...having trouble understanding some of the words there.... it seems the drums are a little "muddy" in my speakers.... great bridge...whoa.....great harmony. That part before the instrumental reminded of Strawberry Fields....loved it..the fade is good. If I had any critism, I would only say it seems like there could be more separation off the background music. Sure wish I knew enough to tell you how to do it. jjtcorsiar was saying how you can acheive spatial seperation with EQ, etc. I don't know. Thanks, I liked it.
