Admittedly I am not the best "engineer" and could definitely use some feedback so that I may better future recordings.

Right off the bat, the initial recording of the acoustic guitar was not great (dull strings and too close to the mic). Vocals are not strong as well.

Also, some speakers seem to increase the loudness of the bass to undesired levels while others are adequate. I don't know if there is a way to alleviate that or not, any tips there would be fantastic.

Aside from that, any technical recommendations would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

The guitar sounds kind of dark. Do the strings need to be replaced? Maybe boost the high's a TINY bit.

Also that deep bass synth playing throughout the song sounds bad ass! But it's lacking any excitement. It sounds muddy too. Try raising the high a bit on that too, or maybe go with a synth that's a bit more aggressive. Maybe put a distortion effect on the track. Lot's of options, just make it more exciting.

That soft sounding vocal from 2:18 to 3:18 needs to be louder. I can't comment on the reverb or echo as it is too quiet, but it would sound really cool with more if all you are using is the amount in 3:18 and 3:35.

I really like it man. This place has made some really cool songs recently!

oooh....... Just heard the ending..... It stopped too abruptly. I would fix that, but it's kinda subjective.

Please post back with a remix! Gives me a John Frusciante/Josh Klinghoffer vibe.

I like the distorted bass note under the guitar - I find it's just enough to give the guitar some sustain... Distorted vocals are quite "modern" which I like. The drums in the first part are stiff and sound out of sync with the guitar. Pick a different patch - maybe simpler that just holds the beat like during the second part of the song. The keys and guitars are working good for me - especially like the "reverby" guitar lead. Other than the drums I like what you have here....

Thank you both for the feedback...I will be taking it to heart.

Crows - You are right about the bass (except it being a synth). I'm not sure if I can do anything to make it more exciting but it is too muddy. Vocals will be tweaked as I think you're right about that too!

ido197 - Thank you for all the feedback as well. I don't know what a patch is, however after some careful listening I found that you are correct. I nudged some of the drum clips and I think it worked to some degree. Also, you are right about it sounding robotic...not sure what I can do since I don't have drums and create the beats on FL studio. I did find a way to "humanize" them by randomizing the velocities and pitches however...maybe that will help a little bit?

Thank you again! The feedback was very insightful.

Wow I thought for sure it was a synth! It sounds dull. Try putting distortion on it. It's rare that bass needs distortion, but I think it could use it.

Yeah...both my acoustic and bass guitars are in bad need of new strings. I underestimated how much that would affect the recording.

I could list all the changes I made, but that would be long, boring, and redundant. Just know that I took to heart a lot of the feedback you both gave me and put it to use (I hope).

I am not sure if the bass is too loud. With monitors, they are slightly underwhelming. With computer speakers (that have a subwoofer), it's a bit loud. In car and iPhone it's fine. Not sure what to do about that...

Here is the remixed version. Thank you again!

Cool... some really good ideas here... a little repetitive but you do a good job of cycling through textures to keep it moving.
I'm not a fan of the synth-percussion that goes up to 1.55, I'd like to hear drums on it but that's a subjective thing....sounds like it might be appropriate for the genre(?). The bass sound is still kinda muddy and lacking...I know it's been mentioned but don't know if you addressed it. I'd just retrack it and go for a fuller, more robust tone.
Overall I think the abstactness and unintelligibility of the "cave vocals" works for the song. Some nice instrumental moments, particularly after 3.20...

Thank you for the detailed response! Yes I believe I need to fix the synth-percussion, as I'm not particularly attached to them and that seems to be a recurring criticism. I did retrack the bass, but at this point I'm at a loss as to why it still sounds muddy despite putting on new strings. Maybe it's due to being a shitty bass guitar? Dirty pots? No clue...

Thanks again!

i dig this song. i'll get back at you when I have the time to listen to it on my monitors. Currently listening thru laptop speakers. great song, keep things like this happening!
