I have about 100 songs recorded on a tascam 4 track.
As I am not too happy with what I get in the mixdown process and the bouncing,I am looking into the prospects of buying a computer system hoping that it will somehow help me tweak the analog recordings and possibly enhance them.
what do you guys recommend as far as hardware,software etc?
and can I get that analog signal to sound like I want it to(clean and not as muddled)by mixing it up with software?

I just heard,from a friend, that nero through its wave studio and studio six functions is good at transferring analog.Is that true?any info greatly apprecaited.
 
I don't know anything about Nero, but recording stereo to a computer doesn't take anything very special. A sound card with a stereo line in, the software to record with (windows comes with sound recorder, it will work as well as anything else), burning software (if you have a burner, it most likely came with nero or roxio) and a CD burner. That will get the job done.
If you want to multi-track with the computer, you need a soundcard that has more inputs, and software that allows you to do this.
 
I also heard that nero has a premastering feature but that the final product would have to be sent somewhere else for the final mastering.
All of this sounds complicated.help!!!!lol
 
If nero has anything to do with mastering, don't use the feature. It really isn't that complicated. You just pick the files you want on the CD and hit go.
 
Get a MAC or if your more poor, get a good comp. WITH ETHERNET!!! and get somthing long the lines of a Alesis HD24. Then use ETHERNET out to ETHERNET in your mac or pc. Then use either Cooledit (pc only) or ProTools, Cooledit is cheaper. matter of fact you can find Cool Edit for free download. But thats very wrong and you should never do that...... I recomend using a MAC G4 or G3, MAC has better audio Quality then PC.

Mac has the same audio quality as a PC. Macs just tend to be more stable.

Would you mind taking this out of your post please - don't we have enough problems without this idea :confused:

Roxio has some pretty good software for capturing analog to digital. Easy CD creator 6 is only about $100.00, maybe less now that they came out with version 7. The windows recorder will only record for 60 seconds unless you know how to tweek it. And I haven't tried it, so I can't tell you how. Plus I've heard that the quality isn't that great. You could always download any of the multitrack software people rave about on here: ntrack, tracktion, power tracks, whatever. They all have the capability of recording from your soundcard, which doesn't have to be a high dollar one. The onboard soundcard you have will work. I'm sure if you go on Yahoo or Google and type in analog capture software, you'd come up with a lot of choices.
 
ok-so now that I know it can be done I can put my mind at ease.thx so much to you guys for this.
I would never get a free download by the way,it goes against good ethics.
I want to feel good about myself when I go to sleep.;-)
