Hey, can someone help me out here
i have an analog alesis 1622 studio mixer with 16 channels. 16 1/4" inputs, 8 xlr inputs, 8 direct outs, sub outs, master outs, etc.
i want to plug all mics into my mixer, then run that to my computer and have it record on atleast 8 seperate tracks at once.
i am looking for professional quality.

any suggestions on what i need to do this? i am running winxp 3.6 ghz 512 ram.
also it is possible to record 16 channels at once to seperate tracks on my computer from my mixing board?
thanks

You need an audio interface with at least 8 analog inputs.

Some possibilities to consider are:

Echo Layla
M Audio Delta 1010 or 1010LT

There are also similar models available from Marl of the Unicorn (MOTU), Aardvark, and RME...

If you want 16 channels you can presumably stack Delta 1010 or Layla interfaces (you'll need two PCI slots available for the two). I think MOTU makes an interface with 16 or 24 analog ins.

Of course you also need some multitrack recording software: SONAR, Cubase, Cool Edit Pro, SAW, nTrack... whether or not you want to use MIDI instruments as part of your setup will have some bearing on your choice of applications.
