Krakit

Rzzzzz!
Is there something cheap I can get that will convert audio to S/PDIF or TOS Optical?

Is the ART DIO the cheapest way to go? (at about $100)?

Is there maybe something that has analog ins and digital outs that wasn't specifically designed for conversion but will do the job?

Like one of those DJ interface dealies or something?

Carl

what are you trying to do? How many tracks?

Some people got away with a mindprint AN/DI Port. 2 Channels preamp with AD converters, straight into the cheapest soundcard with S/pdif.

2 channels is all I need.

The mindprint looks perfect. I can't find it for sale anywhere. How much does it cost and where can I get one?

Thanks,
Carl

Hi, glad to hear that you appreciated....

great converters, nice preamps, monitoring, great price....
also dig the AN/DI Pro...

look after it at ebay and google it as well, ain't be too hard to find. I got mine as a B stock, that was in Europe though....

have a look here!

Trust me on this one- TC Electronics M300. Yeah, it's $200 at GC, but thrown in with pretty good A-D conversion, you get a rather good multi-FX box- reverbs, chorus, delay, flange, a usable compressor (not a great one), a de-esser. For AD conversion, just hit the bypass button and what goes in comes out in S/PDIF. Dual input, dual output by S/PDIF. 24 bit 96khz conversion, MIDI I/O, and the reverbs actually sound good. What's not to like? Also rack mountable, no wall wart. Best $200 box I ever bought. Sorry, I can't find any on ebay, 'cause they don't break, and no one gets rid of it.-Richie

that's a goodie as well!

no preamps though...

Richard, this is not the first time I happen to agree with your view... The M300 is the next "200$ box" I'll get....

only problem I got is that I have more digital enabled outboard then digital ins on my soundcard....

I wish I could afford a good digital patchbay!

I think we're losing the focus of my question.

I'll emphisize. I want this on the cheap!

As it stands, I can get the Art Dio for about $100.

If that's the cheapest way to convert analogue to digital outside my computer, then that's what I'm going to get.

I'm sure that "for just a hundred or two more" I could get lovely gear.

I don't have permission to spend that much. :D

Married man here!

;)

Is there even a chance that I can pick up a digital stereo receiver for a home entertainment system with optical outs that will do the job?

I could even live with analog RCA inputs and either TOSlink or S/PDIF outs on a consumer peice of shit. I mean, digital for the most part is still just 1's and 0's when all is said and done, right?

Carl

I have the AN/DI Pro's smaller sibling, the DI-Port. Great little unit. Got it hooked up to my audiophile. Now waiting for some toslink cables to arrive so that I can hook it up to my M-Audio Transit as well. IF you can find one, it will cost more than an Art Dio, but I think you should be able to find one for less than $200,-

What's the least expensive mixing console with digital outs on?
