An Sm57, Sm58, and a Beta 58A Walk into a bar...

well actually into my basement to record a bluegrass style 3-pt vocal harmony. Who get's which mic, between the baritone, tenor, and alto? Guessing on the ranges, but I don't think there's a true bass in the group. Could be Baritone, low tenor, higher tenor. Hell I dunno. Anyway, which mic would be better for whom? Thats all the mics I have at my disposal, so no other mic suggestions please. I gots no money for buying new gear. Oh, and for what it's worth, it'll probably be recorded live together so there wil be some bleed.
 
Whoever you hate gets the 57, you get the beta, there, simple
 
Yeah, I hear ya. I might just skip the 57, and try to get a balanced 2-mic mix with the other 2. It's actually gonna be recorded onto 2 tracks anyway. But having the faders for each person's mic seemed to be nice.

This isn't for anything particularly important or serious, but I still wanna get a decent sound.
 
It really doesn't matter one single bit which goes to whom. They are all similar enough that it won;t make a damn bit of difference. Put the beta in front of the most conceited person so as to make em feel important.
 
If it was me, I'd try the high tenor on the Beta 58A because of this mic's high end, then I'd try the low tenor on the 57 for the mids, then I'd put the 58 on the baritone, so he can get right up close, to use the proximity effect to his advantage on the low notes...

That was my original plan, actually. Cool. That's probably what I'll go with.
