properly recorded, i could hear this in a movie soundtrack......

good song.....great playing.....

How the fuck did you get Roger Waters to scream for you at the beginning?

:D

Cool stuff. I have no mix comments. I liked it.

Awesome!!!!!
My only critisism is the snare sound! Not horrible, but not quite realistic sounding!
Fantastic fiddle playing!

Thanks again, for all the comments!

metal militia-
thanks for listening.... note taken on the length......

t-rok.com-
you need to boogie, man! that's a good thing.....

soundboy-
glad it touched your heart! ;)

guernica-
yeah, it's supposed to be kind of mellow, and edgy at the same time....
definitely intended to space out....... i think that's why it's as long as it is.....

jcmm-
i love that boogie. now, granted, in more recent years, i've gone to a JMP-1 through it, to get a little different sound, but now i can mix and match the two anytime i want! i've had that one since 1980, it's a mark2b.

david-
thanks for the complement in comparing.....neither of those guys are direct influneces, but my cd collection is peppered with all their albums.....

Gidge-
cool for a soundtrack, eh? what kind of flick? (don't say "porno"........) ;)

chrisharris-
yeah, roger and i are buds..... he came down early on a saturday morning, and burned a few, and then said "what's the name of this song?".......
i replied "Pali face", and, since he had the headphones on, he replied back way too loud "PALI FACE"...... and i just happened to have the tape rollin'.........:D

beezelbubba-
yeah, i hate that snare! my kingdom for a pc, and a good loop program with real samples.....
one day, my ship will dock.......
thanks for checking it out!

Gonzo,

Always love hearing your stuff. It's always well played, well mixed, and inspirational. Bummer I'm at work and can't put that inspiration on the fretboard. ;)

thanks, LOPP !

that was some mighty fine comments comin' from ya.....

So, question......!

how would you treat the sonics on the kit, if you were going to re-record it?

As it is, i ran a hard slapback delay, with about 3-4 repeats, on the kick drum, and reverb on the whole kit, to get that spacey effect......

do you think that works, or is there another angle i could approach from?

Hey Gonzo,

I'm hardly a drum recording/mixing expert, but I'm always happy to volunteer an opinion:

You had mentioned previously somthing like making your mixes sound more modern or less 80's. However, the ambiance effects were strongly favored in the 80's, especially lotsa reverb on the snare. Using less ambiance effects could help modernize your works.

That being said, removing the ambiance may mess with the vibe of the song. Hell, if ya like it and it sounds good keep it. I personally like the vibe you get with your stuff. Then again, I personally still like some 80's stuff. :p

You could also try adding compression to the drums to squeeze out more punch.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY , LOPP

I've always been afraid i was putting too much compression on the drums, and worried about losing dynamic punch......

but maybe your right, maybe i should try squeezing hard, and see what that does with the sonics.......

i'm real torn between the current trend of over compressing all the low end...... it doesn't sound natural, especially when a/b'ing it against the good recordings of yesteryear.....

but at the same time, it does make the low end really tighten up and sound full, and maybe that effect is, in and of itself, totally worthy of a particular sound.....

maybe i have to rethink this whole thing...........

thanks for the brain food.........;)
