Getting ready to order some Wharfedale 8.2A monitors. AMS and ZZSounds have the same deal.

Anyone have experience, good or bad, with these two companies?

Thanks!

Both are great, however AMS has the EZ Payment plan. I got my Wharfedales through them with no problem.

Just finished ordering them. I'm really looking forward to using them; I've been stuck with headphones for the last 5 months!

too late now, but i'd have said AMS, i bought some stuff thru the EZ payment plan, and it's awesome. customer service was great to me too.

So did you go with the EZ Payment plan, Mr. Beeblebrox?

I use KRK V88's a LOT these days.
Any monitor, as long as you know what they are telling you, is good.

If you get somehing with decent freq response, and by a decent manufacturer, you can mix on them.

Get the ones you like.

probably one of the best posts ever made on this board from a differant thread

No, sir, I did the one-time payment. I like my pain in single doses. ;)

Thanks for the comment, Nick. Lots of people on the forum seem to like 'em, and I don't see how you can beat the price.

yeah, AMS is cool. But you had better know what you are buying, and don't rely on their phone rep's to give you any information that is not on their web site....

But that's to be expected from a discount mail order place, really....

Update!

The Wharfedales arrived from AMS on Saturday (I ordered them on Tuesday afternoon).

All is good, they arrived in excellent condition and I got them hooked up on Sunday morning after a trip to GC on Saturday evening for interconnects.

I've been mixing with headphones for the last few months and it gets very tiring. It's nice to have the monitors, and get some air between my ears and the sound source.

I'm not sure I can comment too intelligently on the Wharfedales' sound, as I have no other studio monitors with which to compare them, and I surely can't claim audiophile ears after all the years I've abused them! Also, my studio situation is far from ideal acoustically.

That said, the Wharfedales sound very "tight" - excellent midrange and high-end detail, not exceptionally strong on the bottom end. Just what you'd expect from a decent-quality 6-1/2" two-way system. The low end is just fine when you are in the nearfield sweet spot, though. I suspect they'll come along a bit with a few more hours of use. At any rate, they seem an exceptional buy for a powered pair.
