i've seen gibson ga15rv's on ebay for like 3 or 400 bucks before. it's only 15 watts, but it's class a, so it's supposed to be louder than your average 15 watt amp.

OK

I've got it down to

Marshall TSL601

Mesa/Boogie Nomad 55

Mesa/Boogie Rect O Verb Series 2

Anyone have any comments, anyone own one of these amps?

I second the Gibson GA15-RV. Gibson amps sound killer if you're into rock, blues, jazz, pop or R&B (anything but heavy metal distortion though). 15 watts class A is plenty loud!

Fender Twin

Great clean sound and responds to pedals well.. Vintage is cool if you can

How about the Fender Hot Rod Deville 60W 212

Will I be able to do jazz, blues (SRV), Rock, Van Halen, Joe Satriani

Anyone comment on it.

If you are willing to drop 7 bills on an amp then I would get a DeluxReverb. Its 22watts but LOUD and works VERY well with pedals. And it has the most gorgeous clean you will ever hear.

van halen and satriani are more of a marshall type sound aren't they?

you probably already have pedals right? maybe get the tsl and use that for the satriani type sounds and then use an overdrive pedal (that i'm assumign you already own) for your jazz and blues sounds.

Any of the small fenders are great for SRV blues but for Satriani/VH type tones you need the full saturation of a modern high gain amp. I'd probably go with the Boogie or Marshall in that case.

One of the best amps I've heard in awhile is made at a shop here in Phoenix called Crank Amps. When cranked up it was quiet as a mouse and as soon as you played it had this searing distortion that hit you in the chest. When paired with their own custom hard wood cabs you could feel the air compressing around you. I want one but it's around $1500 for a half stack. :(

Tex,

Is that an acually company, or is it just the guys from the Saltmine making them?

not necessarily. a fender with good distortion pedal can get you a passable satriani sound probably.

or a marshall with an overdrive pedal can get you a passable srv sound.

or you can get a rivers knucklehead...... they have a fender type channel and a marshall type channel......that actually sounds like just what you need.

you'll have to change your gain on once channel when palyign different styles, but you'll be able to have clean and distortion/ overdrive that's similar to both a fender and a marshall.

If I was going to spend that much $$ on an amp, I think i'd go down to the guitar shop and see which one I liked best. There has been a bunch of options thrown out, but the deciding factor has to be how it sounds to your ears. Just an idea :D

My pickin buddy has used a Matchless twin for quite some time, but recently bought an old Deluxe reverb and installed one of the Weber speakers in it. Very sweet tones, and blistering loud if needed.

I've gone to the music store and tried

Mesa Boogie Nomad 55 212- discontinued

Fender Hot Rod Deville 212

Fender Deluxe Reverb

The Mesa/Boogie was OK. Not a great amp. But it is hand built.

The Fender Deluxe Reverb sounds great with a Strat. Nice clean tone. I really like this amp. But, with a Boss DS-1 not that good.

The Fender HRD, had a good clean sound. Not as good as the Deluxe Reverb. But it sounded a lot better with the DS-1 pedal.

I still want to try the PEAVEY classic series, and see how they compare.

I don't think there is any connection with The Saltmine, is there? A friend of mine as getting his amp repaired so I went with him and saw the amps. As far as an 'actual company' it's a couple of guys in an industrial space, lol. The amps are simple enough that anyone could repair them if needed. I don't think I would buy stock in their company but the amps sound kick ass.
