Hi,
I've got an Ampeg Gemini II. Lately when I play, I notice a sort of faint crackling. It doesn't sound like a speaker problem, it sounds like a more electronic crackle, even though it comes out of the speaker (if that makes any sense). I've replaced the power tubes as well as the preamp tubes, but I still hear the noise. It's pretty faint, but I can still tell it's there.

When I bought the amp a couple of years ago, as soon as I got it home, it stopped working. It turns out the wires had come off the speaker. I resoldered them as best I could (I don't have the tool to undo the screws in the back) and it was fine. Could it have something to do with this?

Any ideas?

Sounds to me like you might be cliping something. I had a problem like this last weekend and it was caused by too high a level on my compresser. Check all your levels.

Does this happen when you are turning the volume, adjusting tone controls or just playing?

just when I'm playing. I usually leave the volume set where it is, and if I need to be louder or softer I adjust it on my guitar.
