Ampeg bass amps...

Well I had a cool B15N fliptop my friend owend but he sold it on ebay....so I buy's myself a ne Ampeg BR100 Rocket 100 watt 15" combo, and I'll tell you what....right now I'll tell you.........it is the second best sounding amp I've had in 35 years !!!!! The best I think was in '78 when I used 2 Acoustic 370's and 2 acoustic 301's with 18" Cerwin Vega's.......I was pretty stoned back then and I'm sure it sounded real good and you could stand 20' in front of it and feel your pant legs blowin in the wind !!
The new Ampeg though is small, light (65#) 2 ports in the back. blue diamond tolex and a leather handle you could pull a tree stump with. Sounds like the old Portaflex...nice deep tight punch.....I even tried my strat through it dry and it was great also, what with the gain control and master volume....
Anyone who needs a medium size bass amp, you best haul ass and buy one of these puppys.......shit you not......
The only negative thing I found in any of the countless reviews I read was a guy did'nt like the 1/4" line out instead of an XLR.......big deal....
Got mine from American Musical Supply for $499 with free shipping.....made it from NJ to MT in 4 days.........

Ah yes, the Ampeg B15N: what GOD uses when he plays electric bass! I have a 1963 but we are growing old together and I have been thinking about a lighter one (actually, every time I load it in my van I think a LOT about that) and the BR100 looks pretty good. I see casters are available also. It got great reviews at Harmony Central. Thanks for tellling us. Personally I DI my bass through a tube preamp when I record (rather than heating up that rack of tubes in the B15N) so the line out doesn't matter.

When I was doing gigs in Chi-town long time ago, AMPEG was the premium name in amps. I'm not a bass player but besides Fender, Ampeg ruled the roost for a long time.

However, I have this little tiny GK amp that is a knockout. Use it in my studio for several things; it's small, light, and powerful.

Agreed. I shop around for my church, and I like to get a good knowledge base of the "stuff" out there. Though I don't play bass, the B100R is the best sounding bass amp I've heard. The main congregation just bought one of these from my suggestion, and it rocks. Our youth group plays through a Yorkville 100 watt bass amp which can't even compete.
Our pawn shop down the road has that Ampeg and is willing to let me walk out with it for $300, but I don't know if anyone will buy the Yorkville. Oh well.
