Flailing up a storm.
I picked up a new amp today, I already know i like it, but was wondering if anyone else knew anything about this.

Made by a company called Lafayette, whoi also made amps and FM/AM tuners for home stereos.

2 preamp and 2 power amp tubes. Sockets read left to right:
6X4 6BM8 6BM8 12Ax7
One i found online that the pic attached is from says it is 12 watts. Has Volume, Tone, and Tremolo controls, three inputs (guitar, ACC, Aux), footswitch jack for the tremolo.

Has a Jensen Speaker that is virtually identical to this one:

Any info would be appreciated, especially tube suggestions that might work well in there.

Thanks,
daav

I'm probably wrong..but wasn't Lafayette a company like Heathkit; who sold kits for electronics? Knew a guy in the 60's that built an amp and keyboard from a kit and they were asskickers..well, at the time, anyway. :D

Yeah Lafayette and Heathkit both made pretty similar amp kits, mostly I recall their sound was low power and clean. I never tried an overdrive pedal into one, it might be interesting!

Svetlana makes a 6BM8 tube, Tube Depot has the 6X4 rectifier. The 12AX7 is easy to find anywhere.

Just a fun follow up to this. Last night i altered this little amp with an external speaker jack to run through a cab, and playted with it for a bit through the Celestion Vintage 30 in my iso cab, got some really nice distortion and break up with it fully cranked.

Backed off the volume on the pickups and it gave a nice full cleansounds as well. I could see retubing this and having it become my regular recording amp, next i might look for the schematic and try to upgrade soe of the circuit components if i can get some good suggestions.

Can't say enough about the difference the nice speaker makes with all my amps, and the low wattage tube amp really does add a lot of flexibility for recording at not-deafening volume.
