amp making noise

Hi I have been using a Line 6 flextone II successfully for the past two years without any problems. But yesterday I turned it on and there was a loud crinkling noise coming from the speaker. It sounded like a bag of chips being crushed. Can anyone help with this?

Was there a guitar and cable plugged in when this happened?
 
no there was no guitar cable it was coming out of the amp itself
 
please can i get some help this has never happened before and i need to do some critical recordings. Any ideas are appreciated.
