How often do you guys use the limiter function on your amp when recording or playing live?

None of my amps has such an animal.

No amp I've ever played has a limiter function either...although I do use a compressor/sustainer pedal every time I play. Well, at least every time I solo.

I've used them on bass amps, I've never seen one on a guitar amp.

Really? You know, now that I think about it, I've never noticed the feature on any other amps either......Oh wel. I have a Fender Princeton Chorus, and it has a limiter knob, but only activates you use it's onboard distortion.

those princeton choruses are really nice specially for the money. I play one last weekend with my buddy. mmmm

Oh man I played on a Princeton Chorus for 10 years and totally forgot about the limiter button on there! What a terrific memory I have!

I always left it disengaged because I was in to hi-gain kind of hair metal at the time I got that amp. It was a good amp and made it through many shows and moves into and out of dorm rooms. But the limiter switch kind of killed the sensitivity that I was after so I always just left it off.

I've got a Princeton Chorus too. I set the limiter to about 2 and forget about it, but I play mostly clean. Even when I use the drive chanel I keep the gain fairly low, just enough to give it a little extra punch.

fender 85's have one. i think thats the model. the ones with the grey grill and goofy red knobs! it sounds completely unusable though i tried one out and it just wasnt needed at all. i couldent find a place where i actually liked it.

cool. I never use the limite, whether I'm playing Slayer or The Beatles. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being totally stupid.

Nah, its not stupid to use it or not. It does add another flavor to the sonic pallette.

I think that they put the limiter in the wrong place in the signal chain inside the amp or something because it just seemed to make the amp less sensitive, and made me work harder to get the notes out. Its like they needed to put it post-distortion and they put it pre-distortion maybe.

It's at least a little useful for more crunch-type distortion or blues distortion. But a good compressor pedal does the job so much better. heck, an average compressor pedal does the job better.
