ey guys, i have some hum in both my peavey 5150 and my crate shockwave and i wanted to know what i can do to get rid of it. i see that there is a Hum X by Ebtech, which is 70 bucks. i also heard that at any hardware store you can get an adapter where you plug into before you plug into the wall. i have used them and it seems to work. my main question is, what is that little thing called?! thanx .

A suicide plug.

Seriously. It is not safe to lift the earth ground of a piece of audio equipment. Lifting signal grounds is one thing. Lifting mains grounds is another ball game entirely.

How do you have this equipment hooked up when you're hearing the hum?

WTF.

People always worry about "hum" from amps and stuff.
Don't you know that it's the sound of imminent RAWK?

HAHA no.....no they don't. :D

Guy with the hum problem: Look into some units known as line or power conditioners. If the hum is AC/Power line noise, a conditioner can help.

thanx guys. it might be that my place is not grounded that well or something. its from the amps alone even when the recoridng stuff is off. thanx thouhg i appreciate it.
