Hi, could you recommend a guitar amp for around £300 not really anymore than that. I am looking in the second hand market really. I recently sold an mg 250, sound just didnt cut it. Ideally the amp shouldn't be too big (no cabs) but with reasonable power. People seem to think 100w is pointless from a combo because it becomes too directional with a loud band. So around 50w would be good. I play alt rock and some jazzy stuff. I dont really have access to a good range of amps to try. Thanks.

I think I would look at a THD head,.... go to

www.Avatarspeakers.com......

and look at the deals on the THD heads,.... I like the univalve,... but from what you said,... the need is there for a bit more power.....

Give it a shot at least,....

Used,... if you can find a Trace Elliot ....'Vellocette' twin,...... snag it right away,..... they are a 30 watt stereo class A amp with all you need for tone,.... since it has two 10" vintage 30s...... plenty of volume as well,..... but you will love the tone.......

Hard to find tho.......

Thanks for the help. Thatupstateguy, is that THD amp just a head? I dont think i made myself clear, sorry. I really would prefer a combo. My budget has actually risen to about £400. I like the idea of tube if this is worthwile at this price range.
Cheers

I would hunt for a Trace like I described,.... all tube,... class A,.... beautiful tone,... and plenty of everything you need,..... and a very small combo......

Twin 10" speakers,.....

used since they have not made them for a while,.... I got mine for just under $500 American...

should be about right for you now......

Ok thanks loads. Ill have a look for one. Ive got my eyes on a Marshall JCM 2000 Dual Super Lead 401. Reviews seem good on them. I might be able to squeeze towards a VOX ac30 too. I think by saying i want a smaller amp, its becoming a bit restricting, a single speaker combo (12") will be similar in size to any other one.
Cheers
