I am currently in the market for anew bass. I have recently been playing a hartke and an Austin. The austin has a single humbucker like the sterling, and I can see where one would like that sound kinda(especially since I play reggae). I also have been playing a hartke which has a stagered pickup in the neck and a (humbuker i think) staight one in the Bridge.
I have heard countless arguments for both cases, the two single coils of a jazzbass, or the 3 way humbucker of the MusicMan sterling....which one should I get????

I have a EBMM Sterling, and it is without question the most comfy bass I have played. I don't think you could go wrong with a Fender Jazz, but for workmanship and playability, the Sterling wins out easily. It's big weakness is the pickup, IMO. A Jazz sounds much better.
I've toyed with the idea of somehow putting jazz pickups in my Sterling, but have never done it.
So there you have it. Which is more important to you - playability and workmanship, or tone? The former was more important to me, and that's why I went for the Sterling.

id go with the one that you thought was better, who cares what pickups are in them or where they are made or what wood.....what feels and sounds good to you is what to go by. i cant stand playing my friends warwick, and he hates my p-bass, but yet we both enjoy our bass's....yeah and i got that one friend thats like 6"5 and only will play short scale bass's...dont ask...
