WHY can't one use the AMD processor for CHOCOLATE CAKEWALK

Who says you can't? I don't think you would have any problem running Cakewalk on an AMD-based system. I think the problems that you might have heard about are hardware performance issues, regardless of which software you might be using. I really don't know the details, but some earlier AMD processors had performance issues that made them a poor choice for a DAW; there was also a chipset issue (chipsets being the collection of supporting chips on a motherboard that integrate with the CPU) that certain sound card drivers had severe problems with. Most of this should be reasonably well-deocumented at the sound card manufacturer's site.

AMD

Although I've said this a few times, I dont think anyone wants to listen to me... If you go AMD, it needs to be a Thunderbird, and an AMD 760 chipset, NOT the 750 chipset or a Via. Asus makes a great board with the 760 that has DDR memory (twice as fast) a 266mhz bus speed (twice as fast as ANY pentium 3) and 100ata hard drive support. Go for at least a 900mhz CPU and you can get 256mb ram at Crucial for $100. That board holds 1 Ghz of RAM! Fat! check out pricewatch.com
