Am I The Only One Who Things Pedals-For-Tube-Amp Trades Are Stupid?

Just another guy, really.
I see post on CL fairly often, where some guy (maybe gal) wants to trade two or more pedals for a tube amp. Sometimes it can get absurd- a half-dozen Boss pedals offered in trade for a Matchless or Dr. Z, etc. but usually the pedals listed are outside my knowledge and experience.

I have come to the point where my favorite rig is nearly pedal-less- Guitar>wah>tube amp. The amps I usually play through are either a SF Deluxe Reverb, a Fender Super Champ XD (which is fading in my eyes/ears,) or my new favorite, an Ampeg J12T. I am thinking of using my pedal tuner again, but it's been a year or two since I last plugged that thing in.

Anyway, is it just me, or are these trades, by and large, just stupid? The only way I think I would do that sort of trade is if the pedals offered were worth about twice what the amp I would be trading off is, and I knew I could flip them, fast. I feel like I have found "my tone," and it is largely pedal-less- I am wondering if some other players are moving in that direction, and trying to trade off their now-unwanted stuff.

It certainly sounds like wishful thinking to expect someone to give up a nice tube amp for some pedals.

It would only be stupid if someone traded a Matchless for a ProCo Rat or some such thing! :D

There are pedals that sell for $300-$500-Plus...so I guess if the values if the pedal(s) and amp were equal...it's up to the two parties to decide, but yeah, sometimes you see some obvious kid/newb expecting his couple of Boss pedals are going to land him a boutique amp! :laughings:

I guess it doesn't hurt to ask! ;)

Vintage Ibanez and Boss pedals are going for some serious amounts on eBay. I guess if you had enough you could get a tube amp. Question is what are the pedals and what kind of tube amp???

If you've decided to transition from a more raw rock sound to a shoegaze sound, maybe?

The way I do things, I could probably get more use out of a bunch of decent pedals than one really good amp, but if I already had the amp, I'd probably just save up and buy the pedals one at a time.
