Am I Ripping Something Off Here?

Hey guys, this song is rough as hell and only a chunk (pretty much as much as i've done so far), but i'm getting this sneaky suspision that i might be ripping something or someone off but i can't put my finger on it, so before i sink anymore time into it, i wanted to see if someone could find (if any) the tune i might be "borrowing" from. if not, even better, cuz i'd like to finish it.

once again, this is rough and only two tracks....

 
the guitar part is vaguely similar to a turin brakes song off "the optimist lp".. i dont have it with me so i cant tell you the exact track. It doesnt sound to the point where u ripped it off.
 
This kind of thing happens to me a lot. Guitar sounds nice what kind is it? Vocals are sounding good too.

The guitar part does sound familiar to me but doesn't sound like a ripoff of another song. I've heard a lot of songs with the same kind of progression.

I'd still finish it.

Don't sweat it. It's 2007, and unless its obviously blatant, every riff and progression in rock, country, blues, latin, or pop has been done already. Theres only so many notes you can choose from in any given key and still have it sound listenable.

so far it sounds like there's a "similar" or "familiar" sound, but it doesn't sound like a specific song...right?

i don't care if it sounds like the style of a specific artist i just don't want to find out that i'm blatantly ripping off a specific song.

oh, by the way, the guitar is just a Big Baby Taylor (what i usually use to write and practice with). the mic is just a SP B1 recorded with two tracks tracks total... both with guitar and vox played live. not the greatest setup, but it's good for some song sketches.
 
reminds me of a jack johnson song. BUT.. "there's nothing new under the sun" so whatever. Who cares.
