Maroon 5's album is amazing. I am not that big of a fan of the music but wow. The feel of the album is so rich and full. Every instrument sounds so distinct and clear. It just gives off a old abby road vibe. I feel as if this was one of the best tracked, produced, mixed, mastered, you name it albums of recent. Maybe I am just dumb but what do you think.

It's a decent album...especially when you compare it to everything that's come out in the last few years.

I, however, have been really turned off by the critic's reviews over the last few months. The album was released 2 years ago - I thought it was quite good. Then, after they released the second single in the spring (This Love), the critics (especially Spin) managed to crawl completely inside their ass, praising this 'unique' sound.

Now, it seems that there has been this critical backlash against this album from major publications (especially Spin). I don't know what happened. Unfortunately, I don't believe the band will be able to recreate the same success they had with 'songs for jane'. I don't blame the band. I blame the media & I blame the kids that jump on any moving bandwagon.

Sorry. I had to. ;)

Yeah I know what you mean but in truth does it really matter. Sure they have all this hype behind them with there most recent singles but fact remains it still is a very good album. Kinda a breath of fresh air from a recording stand point.

I can't believe you just compared maroon 5 and the beatles...

Good god man I am not comparing it to the "Beatles". I am comparing it to the vibe and feel from that studio "Abby Road".

I am a little confused why other peoples opinions matter when it comes to personal taste in music. So what if there the biggest sell outs in the world. If you like it then you like.

The production on this record is phenomenal. You know how you can tell? Cause they sound awful live.

On The Wire sounds bad live and in the studio! HAHA cocky foohans.

I agree with this statement wholeheartedly! The Beatles were the huggest "sell outs" on earth, but they are regarded as the greatest band ever! They sold an assload of records, everyone (well, basically everyone) loved them, and they made pop music. I don't like bands that sell out their sound to be popular. Sugar Ray is a prime example. On their first album they had a kind of hardcore/punk thing going, and on their second they had a lot of that going, but then they got a taste of radio and their 3rd album (14:51 I believe it was called) was nothing but wannabe radio singles. It was an aweful album that was only made to get on the radio. They abandoned their music style. I hate that!

Maroon 5 is a good band with some good songs, and good production. They do sound sort of crappy live, but whatever, just don't go see them when they come to town, just put on their cd's and have some beer.

can someone tell me what type of vocal effects they might have used??cuz..tome...the vocals sounded very dry...yet rich...n blended with the song very well...ive been trying to get this kinda vocal tone for a while...but have never been able to get it..

A lot of little tricks going on. I am sure autotune was used in more then one spot. A lot of diffretn backing vocals that are ever so slightly mixed in. If you listen hard enough you will hear them. Also I heard the whisper trick being used.

without sounding thick, whats a whisper track exactly and what does it do for a song?

Track the lead vocal like you would normally do then go back and add a whisper track. What is a whisper track you ask. Well its kind of hard to explain but I will try. The singer sings the backup vocal in a very low db almost mono tone style. Its not really whispering but more talking.

In that case, Ashley Simpson has the best produced music in the world, but (in an ironic twist) for the same reasons, the worst.

Wrong, her stuff is over produced. Maroon 5's stuff sounds organic.

Ha ha ha ha! Oh, man you are brutal. I actually like their popular song, but I've never heard them live. However, they can go the route of Nelly Vanilly (or however they spelled their name) or more recently Ashlee Simpson.

Lip singing is very popluar in Central and South America. I know I've lived there half of my life. The beauty is that everyone knows it and no one cares, 'cause they like the music.

That's close to what Enya does. Only she actually has a good voice, and she sings the same song several times in different pitches, and then everything is mixed together with the music. That's what gives her music the depth it has when you hear her music.
You may think it's echo or perhaps back-up singers, but it's just her.
