Am I nuts or what???

I am thinking of selling most all of my gear and starting from scratch going with an apple powerbook with some sort of firewire w/midi interface like the Mackie 400F.
I am currently running on a Yamaha AW16G with a lot of outboard nice to have equipment (see my website for details). http://mysite.verizon.net/homestudioguy/
My recording time is limited due to being a husband and father of 3.
It's like I have to relearn to use the 16G everytime I use it which isnt very often.
A friend of mine (who has a 24 track 8 bus mackie and 24 tracks of ADAT) just bought an apple powerbook and showed me how quickly he could record on Garage Band 2. It's amazing!!!

you might miss the hardware, but the conversion will be a good substitute.
I would keep the j-station though. and monitors...and mixer..and

I'm in the process of downsizing too. I have a Fostex digital mixer with ADAT's going to my DAW. I don't think I've used 6 of the 8 channels in the time that I've owned it. By the time I get everything set up and the bugs worked out I don't want to record anymore. I'm upgraging my computer and going to the Line6 TonePort UX2. You just plug a guitar into it an go. It's a scary thought to sell all my gear.

I think the proper home setup for anyone is the one that acheives a balance between offering the features they need, and providing the ease of use that won't impeed their creativity. It doesn't matter how awesome your recording rig is if you're not making music. I know people who have monster home rigs, and aren't recording anything. I'd love to have the gear thay have.......but then I'm making music, and pretty darn good recordings.

I think were at a stage now where some very simple rigs can do some very impressive recordings, given a good understanding of the fundimentals.
