Last night I tried to record by hooking up my mackie profx22 to my laptop. I have two different recording software, the one that came with the mackie mixer, Traktor 3, and another I got from a friend, ableton live 8. I couldn't figure out how to get live 8 to recognize the mackie through USB so I decided to try tractor 3. I was able to record but couldn't hear the playback. My headphones were connected to the mixer and I was able to monitor during recording. I tried connecting my headphones to the computer but that didn't work as well. Am I missing a hookup or setting. Also I'd like to record with the live 8 but how can I get it to recognize the mixer through USB.

It's not so much your Mackie as the DAW software. You need to go to the settings page and specify the device and channels you want to use--in this case the Mackie USB mixer.

In Tracktion, it's on the Settings page as detailed on Page 29 onwards on the manual--I've never tried Ableton but I'm sure it'll have a similar menu.
