Alternative to Tascam 244

I have some Tascam 244 recordings I would like to transfer to the digital domain. Are there any other machines that would do this for me? Or should I fix this 244 that I already have?

The background on this-
A friend just gave me back my old Tascam 244. He had it in his closet for about 10 years. When I pushed the play button the machine made a rattling noise. Pretty soon none of the buttons could get the transport to work.
 
Tascam 424 should work...I think the head spec is the same...and the mkII and mkIII 424 decks have direct outs for the tape tracks to transfer all tracks simultaneously as long as your DAW hardware interface has at least 4 inputs.

If it were me though, I'd take the $100 +/- for a good condition 424 and fix up the 244, or pick up a 246.

So none of the transport buttons elicit any any response from the deck?
