I have the demo of Vegas 2.0 that I got from SF awhile back. I love it, but obviously it's not made anymore, and I can't save projects with the demo.

I want an app similar in layout and function. Anybody have any ideas?

I got a deal on Cubase 5.1, and I hate it. Too friggin' complicated, and it doesn't mesh well with Acid Pro 3.0.

Yeah, but I don't need the video editing features that it has. I was hoping for something else. ah well.

Hey Polaris, just to let you know:
I recieved a new Musician's Friend catalog in the mail yesterday and they also have Vegas Audio available for $199.

I know they (SF) integrated Vegas Video & Vegas Audio, maybe MF is just getting rid of old stock?

Sonar 2.0

Logic Platinum

The learning curves are HIGH on Logic.

You, out of simplicities sake, should use Vegas Video 3.0 (you don't have to use the video properties). ;)

Peace and good luck....

If you like Vegas, why dont you try......Vegas?

The video features wont hurt...just ignore them, turn off the vid related screens you dont need

Vegas needs a LOT of work, but for editing with LOTS of crossfades and cuts, splits and moves, it is the speed demon among apps

of course its missing so many things that would make it the UBER app

Yeah, what pipeline said. :)

I'm using Vegas 3.0 mainly for audio right now, but it's nice to know that I could do video work with it if/when the need arises.

And when that video need arises, Vegas works extremely well. Within the past couple months I've started using Vegas' video features, and I've found them to be every bit as intuitive and straightforward to use as the audio features.

You would probably, win-in-the-long-run[i/], by going the Vegas Video route. ;)

Vegas 2.0

I picked up Vegas 2.0 for $200 at my local (Concord, CA) Guitar Center. It's exactly what I needed. Pick it up if you can find it, it's worth the money. I consider the learning curve neither steep nor long. I was making good mixes in short time, after wrestling with SAWPlus32 for too long (feature rich, but a pain & the new version is way beyond me at $1K plus.) Feel free to contact me directly for any specifics or clarification . . .

Actually, I picked up Acid Pro 4, and it does everything I need. ASIO support for recording guitars, plus looping for drums and stuff. It's almost like a hybrid of previous Acid versions and Vegas Audio. It is revolutionary for me.

Thanks for all the advice!!

MacTwang, sounds like you got a good deal. I've noticed too that Sonic Foundry has pretty good upgrade options. For instance, you can buy Video Factory for like $60, then upgrade to Vegas for $199. That's a real savings over the normal full price for Vegas. I'm not advertising for them, but my friends and I were amazed at this. One friend of mine took exactly this upgrade path.

There's another thread here somewhere that's talking about SF's viability as a company though. I hope they don't go under!

If you are or you know any students, teachers or school employees, you can get great educational discounts on SF software. I bought Vegas 3.0 for $155 brand new.

That's what I paid for my version of Vegas. No student discount, just was the going rate at Best Buy of all places.
