In the process of figuring this out, however-- I have an mp3, which is a recording from an old lp. I would like to raise the overall volume of this entire file. The 380 page manual leaves me scratching my head

In the meantime, I'll be searching -- any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

lol...you might try the hard limiter too...in the same Amplitude section that Tukkis pointed out.

I'd recommend the Hard Limiter before using the Amplify effect.

Just from personal experience.

Even better, there's a freeware program which adjusts the volume without decompressing and recompressing the mp3 - the bad news is that I can't remember its name... "mp3trim", maybe?

It's called mp3gain

Does a nice job of adjusting the volume of individual album cuts or single files.

It is simple to use and freeware.

one thing you may notice is that if you use the amplify function on a very quiety track, you may start to hear some hiss. The noise reduction tool may help a bit.
