im getting a whole new guitar setup after trying to fix up an old one (i decided it was time to just step up) so i was wondering what guitar you guys would reccomend for up to $800. i was looking at the ESP LTD EC1000 Deluxe, but there could be better buys. but you gotta love that guitar.

any thoughts?

Fantastic guitar. Feels and looks great, I don't own it but a band I record weekly brings it with them. I just love it when they bring that guitar over. It also records really well, held its own up against a Gibson LP studio.

EC1000 is a LP copy, no? The Agiles are a huge value, and get generally good word-of-mouth, for far under your max. budget. I bought an Xaviere semi-hollow, and it is amazing where it counts, with a smattering of finish flaws on the negative side. Their LP copies are probably stellar.

You may want to remove or paint the badges, they're pretty cheezey looking. Also, order a set of plain tuners with it (they'll put 'em on for you if they ask), as the plastic tulips are pretty spork-looking in real life.

I know it's a copy but man the play and feel was amazing, liked it much better than the lp studio that was in at the same time. Also looks really sweet too.

It's good for metal and is (quality wise) better than any LP I've ever played, but if you aren't looking for a hard metal sound it may not be worth it. EMG 81s are probably the best pickups I've ever used and you can great sound from it but it would really help to know your style to say yes or no.

Ahh, did you forget about the amber sunburt model with the sd jb/59 p-ups? I found it to be much better sounding than the emg models.

I didn't mean "copy" as an epithet, just trying to figure what he's looking at. My Xaviere is a 335 copy, which detracts nothing from its fine points.

ESP/LTD strikes me as an organization that spends a ton on marketing, which then is, of course, recouped at the cash register. If the X I bought were marketed the same way, it would have a $600-800 tag on it.

Tradition guitars, well built MIK guitars. I've got a S2000 beauty and bought it for eight bills including tax. I prolly could have scored it cheaper if I haggled or looked around but I like the store owner. He's a mom an pop store guy and he plays jazz (which is reason enough to feel sorry for him ) The guitar doesn't have the attention to detail that a PRS or Hamer has but it also comes in at 1/3 to 1/4 the price. And, this thing just frigging sings, really.
