ok, this may be a stupid place to post this, but i couldn't find anything else that it even came close to fitting in. How do you advertise to find people to form a band with, what are your experiences in starting bands and what are the easiest ways to do so? I've been a solo artist for quite a while and I've finally decided it's time to get out and play live. I sing, so I don't need a singer. But, I was just looking for suggestions on how you found people to start your bands. Thanks for any input.

Forget the classifieds, you will get responses but they aren't likely to work out. I suggest going to some "open mic" nights and meeting/listening to other musicians. When you hear someone you like or think would be compatable with your style talk to them after their spot. Complement them then ask if they would be interested in jamming. If you hit it off, great. If not, go back next week and try it again. You may be surprised to discover that a lot of musicians play open mic nights just for the reason of meeting other musicians. Don't be shy, get on stage yourself, there might be another musician there who is looking for exactly what you do.

I wouldn't say to forget the classifieds. I responded to an ad on a local website, put there by a bass player looking for other musicians.
Me (guitar), another guitarist, a drummer and a singer all responded.

We got on really well, rehearsed for a few months and Big Ned Lasagne was born. www.bignedlasagne.com

We're out there gigging and having the time of our lives.

So - open mic nights etc is a good idea, but don't rule out putting an ad in the classifieds. IMHO.

I didn't mean to imply that classified adds can't work, they can and do for some but you also run a greater risk of inviting someone over that you might regret (there are lots of weirdos and rip offs out there) later on. And it is real easy to tell someone how fantastic you are over the phone when you really are only a fair musician. (or to be told this by someone else) I just prefer to meet people before I invite them into my home.

And even though I've tried it twice with no replies, you could try myspace
