Ive heard all the rave about this Digi 001...

I currently run Cubase VST32 and the Gina Echo card.

Only bummer about the Gina box is that there is only 2 inputs

The Digi box has 8 inputs and 8 outputs i hear?

Any of you cats run Cubase and switched to Digi 001?

Is it worth my while to get this setup or am i fine with Cubase and my Gina Echo or am i falling behind the times?

all the people i know with the Digi001 and a pc use logic Platinum. now why the Digi 001?
 
Eddie, how many ins do you think you're going to need?
I assume since you've got a Gina you're recording to hard drive as opposed to ADAT, right?

I dont see a need for a change unless you anticipate needing more ins or require a digital out. I also think there's better values than the 001 depending on what you want to do.

Tell us what other equipment you've got and what you want to be able to do.

Well the 2 inputs is kinda a pain in the a$$....

Im a guitarist, i use the J-Station which has a right and left out which take up both slots..

I use the Boss DDR7 drum machine and my korg and the JStation has some Bass amp sims i use as well..

I dont have a outboard mixer, i use the Cubase interface.

Usually ill go in a drop the drums first the build from there on out

Its just a pain in the a$$ to have to unplug either the drum or the JStaion to add the Korg or if i decide later i want to rearrange some parts.

Would be nice to be able to have it all hooked up without having to keep unplugging things.

Im lucky its a seperate box, if i had to go back behind my puter to reach the sound card id be worse.

Ive had Cakewalk 9 and bought Cubase last year. I really like the quality i got over Cakewalk.

Im just wondering with all the new software coming out if im falling behind.

While on this note, Any of you cats compare PC recording to say something like Rolands SVR-88? I was thinking of going that route as well.

Although i get a nice sound from my PC, it jusnt doesnt seem as though the PC was buildt for recording, much like gaming where the x-box is strictly for games and PC's are somewhat close to them.

Im wondering about getting a digital recorder, the rack mount Roland 88 for 500 bones looks attractive.

Anyone got any thoughts on what you think if youve tried PC vs a digital WS?

IMHO, I just don't see the expense of a recording station if you already have a computer. The only difference is the size of the box. Computer based DAWs offer more flexibility and upgradeability. Digital is digital and a processor is a processor.

If you can hang with using the interface in lieu of a mixer, you've saved another bunch of money that would be better spent on mics or a sound card upgrade.

Do yourself a favor and do a little searching of soundcard threads.
Check out the STA C-Port and Omni Studio just to get an idea of what can be done with a more elaborate card.

Thanks for the tip on the STA-C card, wasnt sure of the compnay but after some research i stumbled across it at ST Audio.

Seems they have the model III also...

Whats your take between the 2?

quite a bit of difference in price?

If you own one, whats your thoughts?

the impression I keep getting about the Digi 001 is this

Digi 001 + PC = a big no no.

Seems to me that people have troubel with it and it is really for home recording enthusiasts who own macs.

Just my impression of course.

As for the Roland thing. I had a VS1680EX until about 5 days ago and here I am.... I much prefer PC recording. Especially as I have now conquered my fear of midi and use it frequently.
